Some of the recently released good-looking gear has made a welcome change from the Solys and Goulia-Shounding model that haunts the camera industry since the morning of digital photography. This cute flash is designed for those who want to have fun.
If you have read my review earlier, you will know that recent Never Gear has impressed me. For the first time I was asked to review any of his equipment, I was suspicious because my only experience with him was with some very cheap filters several years ago. However, what they sent me changed my head. It became clear that he had up his game and now aiming in the enthusiastic market with very good equipment. Most of the Neeweer is now available or is very close to the quality sought by professionals, but at a much lower price point compared to larger names.
Neeer Z160 Flash I was surprised. It targets a slightly different market compared to semi-pedesther or fond Chawla enthusiasts. Instead, I think it is aimed at the purpose of those who get beauty inspiration from their gear and who want to enjoy taking photos.
Flashgun’s style was sitting on top of the 1950 shutterbug camera. It oozes retro.
As a result, it will not look out of place when added with other great looking cameras, such as the new OM -3 of the Om system or some Fujifilm models.
Description of Neeer Z160
Neeweer Z160 comes in a semi-solid nylon case. The case also has a flash stand, a sink cord and a USB-A to USB-C charging cable. There is also a clip-on defuse that doubles as a protector for flash lenses.
The body of the flash unit is plastic but looks solid. It is a forward-facing unit. The front is set between a light meter and the flash unit two modeling lights. These are controlled by the adjustment knob on the back, which also controls the power of the flash. Apart from this, there is a rotary power and flash mode selector on the back. In the middle of it is flash recycling indicator light. It also has a display screen that shows power adjustments, modeling light settings and other settings.
At the top is a light sensor and a three-way switch which is functional only in manual mode. In the S1 position, the flash will serve as a slave flash, which is triggered by the first flash of the master flash, thus using a wireless trigger as the same trigger effect. When switching on the S2, it will function evenly, but the first measurement of a master working in TTL mode will ignore the flash. Both of them work only in manual mode. Switching it on X gives flash on normal manual mode.
In addition to its manual function, flash can switch to auto mode. This will measure light and adjust the power of flash accordingly. You can still change the power of flash in auto mode using control knob.
The flash has an internal 1,100 mAh Li-ion battery, which provides about 650 flash over full power. The battery takes about 1.5 hours to charge and it will recharge the flash in 1.5 seconds. The weight of the entire unit is less than 160 grams. It has an operating temperature range from -10 ° C to 40 ° C.
With a guide number of 14 (in the meter in ISO 100), the flash power is not very high, although it is more than the pop-up flash of most cameras. It distributes 22 Ws at the color temperature of 6,000 K.
In use
I mounted flash on an OM system OM-3, first in automatic mode. Because it is not a dedicated unit and uses a pin only to fire flash, the camera has no response. In other words, there is no TTL metering. This means that in aperture priority mode, the camera will keep the shutter open to the ambient light, so you can end with a very long exposure. If the light is low, it often happens when using flash. Therefore, it works best if the camera shutter is in priority or manual mode. You can then set the camera on a flash sink speed – often on 1/200 second or 1/250 second OM system on cameras – and then using dials on the back can separate the flash power, which by modifying the aperture and adjusting both the surprise light.
Most flash photos are of people, so I took a series of selfies with different configurations, separated the level of ambient light, and the shots were attached and removed with the defuse.
For forward-faced flash, it worked a fine within the restrictions of all such flash. The forward-faceing flash produces a specific look. They make hard shadows and make well saturated pictures. This is not looking for a portrait photographer, as unprocessed results do not always flatter. However, it expects a specific look from the snapshot taken during one night. Its relatively low access raises the subject against the background.
I pushed it to its extent, and overheating with over 30 continuous shots is possible. The recycling time extends for seven seconds then, but the manual warns the potential damage and not to exceed 30 rapid shots. A hot warning icon can appear in the icon display, and the flash cannot be fired until it cools down.

in conclusion
My early shots with it were a learning practice. I will never get that good result with my studio gear, but it is not a matter of Z160. It is a flash with which it is designed to play. As I had earlier suggested, it is not a flash for most professionals. Instead, it is designed for casual photographers who want to enjoy themselves. It is quite small to slip into a pocket or handbag, mount on a compact interchangeable lens camera, and easy to use. If the flash is very powerful or very weak, it is faster and easy to adjust by beating it only by beating a knob, which I have tried.
I got better results later when the images of other people were shot where the subjects looked better than me and the background came back. However, for data safety reasons, I cannot involve those people here.
This is a retro-designed bit for those who want more than their pop-up flash, but do not want to make things very complicated. It sits well on small cameras with a warm shoes and also works on my old film SLR. In addition, it is a relatively inexpensive teaching tool for those who want to discover the happiness of flash photography.
