Toto Wolf The FIA has been urged to consider the context of drivers who are swearing in radio during the race and merit sessions.
The governing body has announced a rift on the use of poor language, including fine and cutting points for repeated criminals.
However, Wolf believes that the FIA should be clear about ‘mute drivers and their feelings’.
“This makes a big difference whether you use the word ‘F’ in the context of your own driving or out of spirit,” he said.
“I’m using it if I am angry, but when it is directed to a driver in the car, an officer or team, I think it is what we need to ban.
“We need to create a difference between these two, in my opinion. We do not want to mute drivers and their feelings.
“If we are in a press conference, if we are being interviewed, it is completely different.
“But in the car, as long as it is not an instigator, and until it is derogatory to anyone else, I will just let it go.”
