I think Google may have shared the future of the smart display, or at least a development of form factor, earlier this year CES: on Google TV.

Google’s original successor was finding Android Tablet with Dock. The Pixel Tablet is coming two years after the 2021 Nest Hub (2-Je)-and four years after the 2019 Nest Hub Max-Timeline fit. Most people have television and adding an environment experience to that existing screen seems unavoidable.
However, there are clear methods that televisions do not work directly as successors.
Lack of touch control with a UI that naturally provokes you to tap, is slightly limited, but can be solved by a Gemini live and/or estra-tier voice control experience. However, it still takes away from being able to control your smart house quietly by just exploiting.
Today’s smart displays allow you to keep a small screen around your home. It is unlikely that television will ever reach that omnipresent, even from just one size point of view. This requires many smart displays, in which TV expects new flagships and expectations in the middle.
