June 2025 feature drop The Pixel camera continues with 9.9, starting rolling out. Officially, this update is to add “education hub”, but Google has also removed social shares.
Social share is no longer available in the Pixel camera 9.9, in which the menu has gone through the settings. This ability allows you to swipe on circular preview of your final shot to quickly send it to a compatible app. You can choose up to three shortcuts, serving default with quick shares as the fourth option. (WhatsApp disappears from this list Recent month.) It is not clear that it is a bug, but it looks like a deliberate removal.
Version 9.8:

Meanwhile, the education hub declared as part of the feature drop is not yet live. It is probably coming as a server-side update.
The camera viewfinder will show a circular question mark button in the top-right corner for every mode instead of just something. This bar area is already black, with a status icon that appears to the left. Tapping lets you “find ways to take photos”, with Google Highlighting:
- Add me to,
- Chitramala: Stunning, take high-resolution panoramas
- Astronomy: See how the stars go in the sky throughout the night
- Night sight
- Macro focus: Tiny objects, bug details. Stunning close-up capture
Under examples, you get the visual motivation of “what does each mode” with real shots that includes the name of the photographer in the corner. In the bottom-right corner, there is a “open camera” fab (floating action button) that quickly returns to the visualization.
Finally, the “tab” tab provides useful instructions to use each mode.
