Google Maps Navigation missing media control on Android (updated: Fixing)

After demonstration of Auxiliary driving mode Earlier this year, Google Maps is now recalling media playback control for YouTube music and spotife on Android.

Update 7/21: Google tells us today that it is “actively working to fix a problem that is affecting media playback control on Google Maps.” The disappearance was just a bug.

Original 7/19: Along with removing driving mode, users had to use “show Media Playback Control” feature that works with apps such as YouTube music and spotify.

While navigating, it expands the bottom sheet with once with album art, song name and artist to the left. In addition to the playback control on the right, taping “brows” shows to switch nine tips quickly. There is also a shortcut for “YouTube music opening”.

This enabling it blocks the lower half of the “report” button, but it is still tapable.

Old vs new

As Google Map 25.28 (Standing) and 25.29 (beta), these media controls have disappeared in the last one week. Settings> navigation “show Media Playback Control” loses togle and “default media app” option.

It is not clear that it is a bug as this feature is available on iOS. Without auxiliary driving mode, the Google map should actually provide easy access to media controls. Hopefully, this is not a intentional removal.
