Google discovers AI story summary test

Google is testing the AI-generated summary in the discover feed on Android and iOS, as well as doing easy bookmarking.

Instead of a single publication logo and name in the top-left corner of the card, Discover shows several overlapping icons to show how many stories were used to generate summary. Tapping opens a “more” sheet with all those articles.

Before you get three lines of the text before you tap “more”. The very last thing is how it was “born with AI, which can make mistakes.” This experience, especially highlighting of key information, looks similar to AI overview in Google Search Results.

The cover image is from the first story, appearing below its headline. The name of the publication is also shorter than the Time/Date.

From a browsing experience, it gives you more information and references before tapping you into an article. However, users who do not click on the article of that additional information may have adverse effects. As this test, the AI summary of the Google Discover appears with the existing single article format.

Meanwhile, the discover is also testing the “Save” icon directly into the card. Appearing in the middle of the heart and overflow menu, it saves you a tap, appearing in your bookmark Activity tab,

The AI summary and elevated safety icons are still being tested and not widely available. We are seeing it on both Android and iOS (Google App).
