As the four face off against the new cosmic dragon, Godzilla and the Silver Surfer must come together to save the planet.
According to Marvel EIC C.B. Kabulski, the company initially talked with Toho about reprinting those older comics, but negotiations ultimately made it clear that “both of our teams were excited to do more together. These crossovers began to come together with the direct collaboration of Marvel Comics and we felt Godzilla’s 70th anniversary was the perfect time for them.” As stated by Dan Buckley, Marvel’s president of comics/franchises. That said, Godzilla has become quite popular recently. godzilla minus one and American-made MonsterVerse movies, so Marvel couldn’t get involved in that – and if it were a hit, Kabulski said Marvel would be more than happy to team up with Toho on more “exciting projects.”
Buckley said, “Kaiju—and especially Godzilla—are important parts of Marvel’s comic history, so we knew we wanted to explore something with their teams.” “It is part of our current cultural ideology and a perfect example of the fun the comics industry can bring. Our focus is on storytelling first and foremost, but fun crossover opportunities like this provide both of our fans with an entertaining experience they won’t want to miss.
