Fines, points deduction possible for F1 driver who swears with new FIA stewards’ guidelines

The FIA ​​has issued a series of penalty guidelines for managers that could result in Formula 1 drivers incurring fines or championship points penalties for abuses or other sporting code violations.

An updated version of the FIA’s sporting code was released on Wednesday with guidelines for breaches under Article 12, particularly in relation to misconduct.

The governing body defines misconduct as “the general use of language (written or oral), gestures and/or signs which is offensive, insulting, rude, uncivilized or offensive and could reasonably be expected or considered rude or indecent or “This may cause it.” To cause offence, insult or be inappropriate”, “to attack (elbow, kick, punch, hit, etc.)”, and “to incite to do any of the above”.

These guidelines also include the base penalty, which is multiplied by four for F1 drivers.

Offenses within the range of misconduct include a base fine of €10,000 for the first offense – which rises to €40,000 for an F1 driver, rising to a base €20,000 fine (€80,000 in F1) and a month’s imprisonment. The suspension is suspended. Second offence.

A similar penalty will be awarded for “any word, act or writing which causes moral injury or harm to the FIA, its bodies, its members or its executive officers, and more generally to the interests of motor sport and the values ​​they defend.” at the FIA” and “any public incitement to violence or hatred”.

The FIA ​​retains the same penalty under its statutes for the general production and display of political, religious and personal statements or comments in violation of the general principle of neutrality promoted by the FIA, unless previously approved in writing by the FIA. yes. international competitions, or by the ASN relevant to national competitions within their jurisdiction”, mandating that drivers make a full public apology for their comments and retract their comments.

In addition, stiff penalties will be imposed for any “failure to comply with FIA instructions regarding the appointment and participation of persons during official ceremonies in any competition counting towards the FIA ​​Championship”.

It starts at a fine of €15,000, with a fine of €30,000 for any further offense “as well as suspension of access to the event’s reserved area(s) for the next event” – including the track, paddock, park ferme and Everything can be included. Media sector.

A further offense failing to follow the ceremony’s instructions would result in a fine of €45,000 and a six-month suspension from defined reserve areas – with all fines for F1 drivers again multiplied by four.

In other world championships, for example the World Rally Championship and the World Endurance Championship, these base penalties have a multiplier of three, while FIA ​​regional championships have a multiplier of two. The International Sporting Code has also received additional sections, including violations for any failure to comply with environmental guidelines set by the governing body.
