A new update for the Find My device app has landed, supporting a new to-tab UI and location support, as well as the existing device and tracker functionality such as improved preview.
Finding my device V3.1.277 has started its initial rollouts, bringing the promised “Peepal” tab with it announced by Google earlier this week.
This new tab allows users to look at other users through Google Maps Location sharing, as well as a link through a link or through Google Account to share their location with other users through searching my device app. Google notes that this tab is in “beta”, even if functionality is present within the map for years. This tab can also share “fix” space on new devices (as users have to choose effectively from which device their location is shown).
But earlier this week, Google’s declaration has not seen how the Find My device app has changed for the current tracking functionality.
The “device tab” now shows your list of devices and trackers at the bottom half of the display, taking the top half with a location preview. Not only is it quite functional because it immediately tracks a location when the app first opens, but it should feel familiar to users coming from Apple’s ecosystem, as the Find My App is designed in this way.
Sadly, there is still no way to change the order of equipment, which means that the app still opens on whatever device is on top of the list.
Perhaps one of the best small upgrades in this update is supporting to show the live location of your current device when looking at another device or tracker location. First, find my device Only Show the location of the device you were looking for on the map, which can make it incredibly difficult to see where a tracker was compared to your real place.
Note: Maps are empty here due to a poor internet connection
Find my device v3.1.277 is not widely rolled out yet, but this is the biggest update we have seen in the app because Google started rolling the FMD network last year.
What do you think about these changes?
