California based studio Folkner architects With a solid house topped with Wearing steel Cantillar that ignores Las vegas,
The expander, 11,780-class foot (1094-class meter) house was constructed in Samulin, Nevada and reflects the durability and granular methods of the need for desert landscape due to its strong winds, dry winter and hot summer.
Folkner architectsLocated in San Francisco and Trokie, the house was concentrated – known as a red rock – around a courtyard and a square, a high -basin of water that mimics the dimensions of the living space. The form was created through a subtraction process, to excavate the land and to take out the places.
“The house represents a relevant interaction between the original and distant desert landscape and the city -made landscape,” Folkner Architects told Deedan.
The studio continued, “The earth -like ground -like ground -like ground form with a layer of exact steel is an indication for the geology of the Las Vegas Valley and the Red Rock Canian,” the studio continued.
“Setting a distant view of the city’s profile on water, describes the delicate relationship with your almanac nature and water.”
Set between the Las Vegas strip in the east and the red rock valley in the west, the house balances urban and natural effects.
While the climate affected the materiality and form of the house, zoning set a 24-foot (7.3 m) height range, pushing shared places into the Earth.
While about half of the area is located below the ground, the rest is naturally transported to a ventilated lookout – which catches the spaces – with perforated steel screens that shades the upper level and control the contact of the sun.
This form protects the courtyard towards the north and east, while the breeze allows the cooler to pass over the water and cools the areas living at the lower level through the steel slash doors.
Meanwhile, the Cantillar of the southern deck colors the parking area and reflects the approach to the entry.
The team said, “The entry into the house is obtained through a narrow opening in the concrete mass.”
“The threshold, at the level of the eye with water, leads to a closed and shaded passage that a little ramp in the court, open to the sky and is situated by a vertical landscape of indigenous tree plantation,” it said.
The concrete of the floor and walls includes locally citrus sand, gravel and fly ash mix, which is thrown into a tone, when the rigid desert is thrown into relief by the sun, then the team explained the color of the distant mountains, the team explained.
External weathering steel copper and rust tones with rock pairs and hot neutrals of the saw oak interior are finished.
The white, reflective roof is at the top with a photovoltaic array, and high efficiency glazing, mechanical and light systems contribute to home performance in rigid climate.
