F1 2024 qualifying stats are bizarre

Race results inevitably stand out most clearly in the motorsport history books, but qualifying is crucial to making it in Formula 1, with the 2024 season being no different.

A look at the statistics from the recently concluded campaign reveals a number of interesting statistics to note for the driving pack – both those who performed well and others who struggled.

Inevitably, car performance plays a big role in qualifying results, as this is the prime chance to see pure speed each weekend (with two sessions for sprint events), without any fuel or engine mode warnings, although a Tricky Pirelli rubber can also add an important extra factor in how the driver gets the best out of it.

For all of these statistics presented here, we have only looked at the GP qualifying sessions rather than the SQ1-SQ2-SQ3 sprint sessions.

Topping the list are the drivers who made the most appearances in Q3 all year, those of Red Bull max verstappen, mclaren couple lando norris And oscar piastriAnd mercedes racehorse george russell – Each made it to the pole-setting qualifying segments 23 times.

As for the split, Q2 appearances become relevant and here Verstappen comes out on top as his only non-Q3 result from each 2024 GP qualifying session was when he crashed out in Q2 at the Brazilian race.

As for Norris, Piastri and Russell, they all got the same Q1 exit, leaving them behind the world champions – Norris in Baku, Piastri in Mexico and Russell in Hungary – and they are the only drivers to ever exit in Q2. Didn’t happen. In all 2024 GP qualifying sessions.
