A part of the international focus was operated by a new hub for the fellowship program in Singapore, which was opened by the organization in August 2024 with Temasake, the country’s investment fund and a government agency Enterprise Singapore.
But it is also a belief that climate change will require solution from all over the world, being a global problem.

“What are local requirements, okay? What are local challenges?” Grosh said. For example, she indicates the fact that many cohort members are working on hydrogen.

Beyond its more global focus, the Breakthrough Energy Fellow program has also shifted its course. Using a structure called Techno-Economic Analysis, they work with “Business Fellow”-then entrepreneurs with relevant experience-to determine whether and where their idea can get the product-market fit. If not, they will be nudged to the axle.
“We were seeing that a lot of companies come thinking that they are going to do one thing, and then they are axis,” said Grosh. “They are more ventureable once we have helped them through that axis and validated it.”
