The Hindu Temple is located in the Anthelope Valley Campus Lancaster, which is about 70 miles (113 km) north of Los Angeles. The rural city is located within a desert valley surrounded by mountains.
Made from three main structures, the complex is seen as “integrated places of a dozen separate Hindu immigrant groups”.
The first imagination of the project was made about 15 years ago and was completed in several stages. CSA PartnersCyrus, a studio in Chicago, established by Sabwalla, oversees the design, which symbolizes the merger of historical and contemporary approaches.
The studio said, “The design of the depth contained in history and metaphors combines historical forms with contemporary construction technology to produce specific modern interpretations of traditional architecture,” the studio said.
The design attracts the temple of India in Kangra, which is notable for its dedication to the worship of two deities – Vishnu and Shiva. The studio said that the temple is located in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, and its design diversity can be seen all over India.
For these reasons, the temple in Kangra was seen as “an ideal design example for the diverse requirements of various Hindu communities of the Atelope Valley”.
The campus sits on a dry, flat site adjacent to a park. Its first building was completed in the Mahavrrishnu Temple, 2014.

The studio said, “executed in matching materials, the building is defined by the freestanding masonry walls – sliding from each other – in which a glass volume is inserted,” the studio said.

The third building, Sri Amma Meditation Center, was added in 2023.
Viewed as the “final and most metaphor location in the campus”, round, concrete-end-glass structure is tucking in a mound. A paved path leads to the entrance of the 900-class-foot (84-class-meter) building.
The team said, “This structure is based on the womb of personal development and emergence and its objective is to talk to worship the Hindu Goddess of Goddess Akhilendswari, fertility.”
