Cinelax Debut Clever Nexa-Mag Storage Solution for Legacy Red Camera

On this scene, a quite new, British cinema camera accessory company, Cinelax announced its better media Nexa-MAG for Red DSMC 1 and DSMC 2 cameras.

Cinelux is a one-person operator and an entrepreneur-operated company David Morgan Jones. With a mind to the new media solutions, Cinelax wants to address a storage issue with heritage red cameras that is a predominant in high-value presentations. The original mini-mags were built a decade ago, so while the cameras are still in great use, solid state drives (SSDs) are often dying slowly.

Cinelax’s Nexa-Mag is ready after one year of development. They were fully made of scratch from the infrastructure of the original mini-mags. From reverse engineering to mini-maggs completely redevelopment and modernizing their internal, Nexa-MAG is designed with accurate and quality, which is to prolong the use of data storage and otherwise to prolong the use of completely good red cameras otherwise.

Since the DSMC3 moved to the Ecosystem in Red 2021, its focus has been focused on the third generation of the camera, which means that it has slowly stopped manufacturing and supporting the first and second generation equipment.

Seeing an opportunity, Cinelax designed its third-party storage solution for red cameras.

Nexa-Mag is a CNC mechanized aluminum SSD drive available in 480 GB or 960 GB. It runs from “Ultra Cool Running Toshiba components” with high conductivity thermal pad inside the drive. Cinelux advertises a drive 25% faster than a mini-mug with reed speed that maximizes the SATA III boundaries up to 570 MB/s.

Nexa-Mag’s design functionality also addresses some other common issues with mini-MAG about ergonomics and fit. Nexa-mag has ergonomic streaks for handling, making it easy to install and remove the drive. This device is also slightly larger and thicker than a mini-mug that makes more flush fit inside the camera.

Availability and pricing

Cinelax shared that it was launching Nexa-MAG with a limited first production run of 100 units. As A single-person run companyThis is due to deliberately limited release strict quality control standards and expectations of performance.

East-launch orders are scheduled to ship in mid-May. 480GB Nexa-Mag will be retail on $ 545 and retail on 960GB version $ 795. However, during the pre-order period starting on Thursday, both offer 30% discount.
