Kasper Rood has fuled into the ranking system of ATP.
The Norwegian was taking an injury to the French Open and was knocked out by Nuno Borges in the second round.
Rud, who has played in two French open finals, believes that the ranking system and rules of ATP encourage stars to play injured.
“It is like a rat race when it also comes for ranking. You think you are bound to play with some rules that ATP has installed with compulsory events. You think you lose a lot if you show and play, both economic, point-wise, ranking-wise and opportunity-wise.
“For me, I know that these weeks and months are really important for the remaining year and for my career. Certainly, if my leg is broken, I will not play.
“But this is difficult in any way, especially when there is a time with compulsory events to leave them because the punishment is quite difficult, in the context of everyone else, you will get points .. and you will not. In addition to that there is a certain bonus system set that decreases if you do not show compulsory events.
This is a suspicious system because on the one hand, you do not want to show the injured, and you probably give the other a spot. I am not sure you are aware, but if you do not play a compulsory event, they cut 25 percent of the end bonus of your year.
“You are forcing players to show injured or sick, or whatever I think it’s not very appropriate. It is not very appropriate. Anyway it is capable of dealing with the deal as I said. I am able to deal with pain. It is not very bad. Some days are not worse than others. I am not going on some pain reliever for a few days.
