Canon has created a 4K/60-capable Super35 (∼APS-C) Video sensor with global shutter Available to third party buyers.
The 10.3MP sensor added to the product page of its Industrial Equipment and Semiconductor business unit is 27.4 x 15.3 mm, making it a 1.34x crop relative to a full-frame still camera, but at a roughly 16:9 aspect ratio.
Its 4288 x 2398 pixel count Clearly designed to deliver 4K footage. We would normally expect Canon to have introduced it in a camera before offering it to external users, if it planned to do so.
Canon sells its 4K/60 Super35 ‘GS’ global shutter version EOS C700 CameraIn 2017, however, available specifications showed that its sensor was slightly smaller, so presumably it was not the same as what is now being offered to outside companies. Specifically, Canon claimed that its dynamic range was one stop less than the progressive scan Super35 chip in the regular C700 models. There is still a possibility that this new chip will form the basis of the successor to the C700 GS.

Currently, we are not aware of any other consumer camera manufacturers using Canon sensors. Specialist industrial/security camera manufacturers such as Ilunis have used their sensors to create high-speed and high-resolution cameras for applications such as aerial photography and machine vision applications, but we have not seen 120MP Or 250MP APS-H chips in consumer cameras, including Canon cameras.
Canon said it was Developing a DSLR based on your 120MP sensorBack in 2015. Prototypes based on the EOS 5DS body appeared at trade shows, but no final product was ever revealed.
Canon’s semiconductor business also offers “Full-frame” global shutter sensorAgain its aspect ratio is approximately 16:9 and proposed uses include microscopy, factory automation and traffic monitoring. This sensor is available from early 2023.
