Burn the Film: Blue Bombers crushed the inaugural stamped bowl (and nine other views)

Vinypeg Blue Bombers suffered a shocking loss against Calgary Stampders on Thursday night, who lost 37–16 to 22,485 fans at McMahon Stadium. I have thoughts on the game below.

Burn movie

Each CFL team is entitled to a “burn a film” – in other words, a performance so bad they should not be disturbed by watching tape, just forget about it and move forward.

This is the same as transpailed for Vinypeg Blue Bombers on Thursday night. They played poorly in all three stages, seduced by a house underdog, which ended dead in CFL in the previous season.

With that, even great teams are allowed to “burn the film”.

In 2019, Blue Bombers exploded 33–13 in Hamilton, then dominated Tiger-Cat in the gray cup after eight weeks. In 2023, Vinypeg was crushed 30–6 at home by BC, but still ended by winning the season series. In 2024, the Montreal Princess came to the Auto Stadium and won 27–12, yet it was a blue bombers-aloetes-which made it in gray cup.

The issue is: Lopsed loss occurs and they are not a reason to panic. It was Vinypeg’s “Burn the Film” game for 2025. They should flush it and move forward.

With that, blue bombers cannot afford one and one. Like all CFL teams, they are absolutely entitled to a smelly. If this happens again, it will cause nervousness.

De-readful

Vinypeg’s defense is one of the best in the league, but you will not know how to play in Calgary.

Stampders easily shifted the ball to their initial drives, which ended in the 43-yard touchdown pass for Clarke Barns. Marquise Bridges provided decent coverage on the drama as he gave his jump well after the receiver recovered from the double-moving, but he was unable to remove the ball and Barns made a good catch for the score.

Through the second quarter, Midway, Vinypeg, left the blasts except only two plays as Tevin Jones dropped the Terrail Bonds for 29-Yard Catch, then Deadric Mills ripped the 21-yard run with a gift. After three plays, Kieri Wilson could not chase the first overall pick Damien Alford in the 2025 CFL draft, scoring his first career touchdown on a small catch-run.

Late in the second quarter, Jalan Philpot was opened on a deep route and Adams hit him for 66-yard catch-and-run, with a native of Delta’s natives, BC Dodge Jamal Parker and Michael Griffin II will deal with. After two plays, Mills punched the ball for another major score.

Woof.

There was nothing that the unit did well. Protecting Vinypeg was not able to get pressure with four rosters. It missed the tackle. It did not choose many catches. Willy Jefferson and Redda Kramdi punished. Jake Thomas was also given a green signal to take a rough to the passerby, although it seemed comfortable on the replay.

The rescue became tough in the second half, which led to zero points, but it was due to the part of the conservative nature of the Calgary attack as they tried to kill the clock. A good drama came from the bridge, which took away the football’s midway filpot through the fourth quarter. Parker recovered Famble, who gave possession of Vinypeg near Midfield and touched his alone at night.

Jordan Younger’s unit has been continuously great as he was promoted as a defensive coordinator in the previous season. On Thursday, it was bad. Obviously, they have got some work in goodbye week.

Zach comes back

After being nominated 3downnnationWeek aggressive player For his four-tachdown performance against Edmonton, Zach Collaros fought on Thursday night. Badly.

Late in the first quarter, the 36 -year -old threw a hook route for Nick Demsky, but the pass was jumped by the Calgary Safety Demon Web, which intercepted it and returned 30 yards for the score.

In the fourth quarter, the calros tried to hit Brady Olivera on an outlet route near the sideline, but the ball came out very slowly, allowing a strong-side-linebacker deryk Monkref to take it and returned it at a distance of 70 yards for the touchdown.

A game. Two pick-six. Yikes.

In addition to two turnover, the most expensive error of quarterbacks came to the end of the first half. Vinypeg had a chance to score a touchdown, but the collarose recalled a wide-open kerch wheatfall in the end region, throwing the ball well on his head.

The drive as Sergio Castilo, associated with the 21-Yard Field Gol, still ended in the point, but was damaged. All the speed blue bombers suddenly evaporated and evaporated as they used to create uproar behind 23 points. After that, there was no such moment when it felt that Vinypeg could return really.

Even the relationship between the collaros and Dalton scon – was usually one of the best of CFL – closed. The collaros had a chance to hit the receiver on a long corner path in the first half, but forced the team to push. Scone returned the error in the second half, leaving a perfect throw, which would have changed a second below. The receiver had another decline in the fourth quarter, after which he left the game with a clear knee injury and did not return.

It was not worse than all collaros, who finished the game 34 -off -48 for 288 yards, one touchdown and two interception. With that, he is the two -time CFL for a reason. The Future Hall of Famer has set a high standard in this league for more than a decade and does not play sufficiently well to win in Cautown. Its as simple as that.

Voters visits

James Witors made their first visit to Calgary on Thursday night, but performed a quiet, with two tackles recorded. The 32 -year -old played his first four CFL season with Stampders, but was released to the offsen before signing with Blue Bombers.

This was not a great night for Vinypeg in trenches, although the aggressive line was better than the defensive line. Zach Collaros faced some pressures, but zero bars were dismissed, while Brady Olivera was given some good running streets.

Defensely, there was not enough shock from the front four of the Vinypeg. The unit of whites, Willie Jefferson, Jake Thomas, Dewin Adams, Came Lawson and Colin Cornelson need to improve. It may also be the time for the team to promote the Jason person with practice roster so that more rotational options can be provided from the edge.

Brady (quietly) back

Brady Olivera made a comeback to the lineup after recalling two games due to a shoulder injury. On the initial drive of Vennipag, it was clear that Olivera had fresh legs because he moved the ball six times for 36 yards, setting an 18-yard field goal from Sergio Castilo.

With the game relatively quick closure, it became difficult and hard to run the ball for Vinypeg. Finally, Olivera ran 13 times for 61 yards and caught six passes for 51 yards.

Some misunderstandings also appeared between Olivera and Zach Collaros. In the first half, the collaros pulled the ball to a clear run-pass option, but immediately closed itself to run. He finished at a distance of seven yards, which was a decent result, but there is no way that it was from the design – some had to flare up.

In the second half, what appeared as another run-pass alternative, Oleivera and the collarose had a clumsy exchange behind a pulling Patrick Nepheld, resulting in a loss of two-rats. Then, there is no way to execute the game properly because the design had no meaning.

Given, Olivera only played a handful of snaps in this week’s game, but these are the mistakes that cannot be in meaningful football sports.

Stampede bowl

Thursday’s game was the first stamped bowl, which for the first time a CFL game has formally marked as Calgary Stamped. The result was a solid appearance as the stampers scored 20,000 marks for the first time this season.

Poison’s Brett Michaels performed the Haftime Show, while Stamped Bowl Trophy was awarded the Home Squad to win the game. The Blue Bombers will also donate $ 25,000 to deal with the poveler in Calgary as part of a friendly bet made by team president J McMacnel and Wade Miller.

These are types of special sports that become tentpols for fans throughout the season. Everyone in Vennipag knows about Banjo Bowl, even if they are not fans of Blue Bombers or CFL. It has become a late summer staple, which is why it sells months in advance every year.

More standalones, reputed games can create CFL, better. The McMahon Stadium near Calgary has to go a long way to recreate but it was a big step in the right direction.

Great grabbing

There is a positive here: Jereth Sterns made a notable catch for his first career touchdown as a member of Blue Bombers.

You often see this play design in CFL in red zone. Facing the man coverage, Sterns leaked from the opposite side of the form of formation with the collarose running play-action.

This pass usually comes a bit faster, which is why Deman was in a position to contest the web catch. Regardless, Sterns did a great job of adjusting the ball, from which the heck was squeezed, and the contact with the ground survived.

Back error

The Venypeg Returner Trey Vaval made a late miscreant in the first quarter when he brought 68-yard pant out of the end of Mark Wasate, heated by three stampaders on only six-yard line. When a return gives a chance to kneel for the same point, they will have a lot more than six yards.

After finding seams in each of their first three matches, Vaval was mostly held in the Gulf in Cautown. It will be interesting to see if Pitan Logan has not practiced since the onset of the training camp due to an ankle injury, will be ready to leave after Vinypeg’s upcoming By Week. After all, that one-game is the injured list-six-game injured list.

No biggi

Adam Bight did not wear clothes for Stampders this week as he continues to recover from ACL torn last year’s Labor Day Classic. With that, it is possible that he played a role in attacking the Calgary attack so effectively in protecting the Vinypeg, especially given that the Stampaders had extra time to come from a goodbye week.

It seems that there is a chance that an experienced linebacker will be ready to play when Calgary will visit Vinypeg in two weeks, which will start a fitting season for him. Bighill will certainly be warmly welcomed by the crowd at the Princess Auto Stadium, as Bak Pierce returned with BC Lions last month.

next

Despite playing only four regular-season games, Blue Bombers (3–1) are going to the other out of their three goodbye weeks this year. The team will then play 11 straight weeks until the final goodbye in the first week of October.

CFL is suddenly third in the week 5, after having a unanimous number 1 team, in the Winpeg West Division.
