Blackmagic Design has once again proved a company in contact with its customers’ needs, with the announcement of a new well -organized version of the Blackmagic Ursa 12K LF camera for half the price of the kit version.
It took me a little time to get acquainted with blackmiastic design products. My career predicted the company’s existence, and, as long as they grew prominently, I was already more familiar with other brands. The first time when I really looked at them, really later, in response to an article, I wrote on another cinema camera, here a user on FSTOppers asked me in the comment section that I instead of it Why did a blackmagic design camera not option.
My first real conversation with the company took place when I was looking for a better way to grade my video footage. Working with Adobe Premier at that time, I was finding this process possible, but not optimal. With Blackmagic Design being free of Davinci and hearing great things, I thought I would try it. I think it took me about an hour to see Prakash. Davinci resolution, even the free version, was the best device to grade my footage. This changed my workflow, and I never looked back.
Years later, I use the paid version Davinci resolution studio For the entirety of my post-production workflow, including editing, grading, effect and sound. Even though the free version you will find all the absolutely necessary equipment for a basic editing, but I bought full Davinci Sankalp studio license. For a one -time investment of $ 295, I have enjoyed an upgradation generations in the program without any additional cost. Unlike other platforms that forces you in monthly membership, you only pay for your Davinci Sankalp studio license. If you do mathematics, it means that to live with other programs, you are basically being forced to spend the same amount which you are once once a year, once a year, every year Bar, every year, whether you need an upgrade or not, the same amount is being forced to spend. With Davinci Sankalp studio, you pay once then move forward with your life. There is no way to deny that in my opinion, there is a better value for money for a better product.
My bliss of Davinci Resolve Studio opened me to search for the line of my cameras. First i tried The original URSA was offered 12K. Since then, I have recently tried a handful of cameras above and below their product line, including an award winner. I am not going into a brand superiority debate here or any wild claims about blackmistic design cameras are better than industry leaders. However, what is undisputed is that you find a cat of a lot of cameras for money. Whatever blackmizer design camera I have tested so far, it has provided excellent image quality out of the box. 12k or 6k, it created very little difference. Both of them felt exactly what I was watching from the image coming from the sensor. This is a completely subjective thing, by the way. But, unlike a lot of products, which I imagine they are better based on glasses and reputation, blackmazic design cameras proved me in practice with hands. There was just something special about the image. And, as a result, they won me.
Now, before you imagine me to be only a blackmizic design fanboy, with a closet filled with pocket cameras, I should accept that I am not currently the owner of any blackmistic cameras. As you can collect from my details above, it is not due to lack of interest. Rather, my interest in the brand matches only with my personal commitment to spend less money on camera gear. Therefore, I have not bought any camera in recent years, selected instead of a rental model. But, if I were to invest, the blackmagic design camera line would be a clear idea.
It extends exclusively Blackmagic Design Ursa Cine 12K LfThe headline feature is 12K sensor, and there is no doubt, the product opens a large deal of options for the work of shots or heavy special effects. You are unlikely to shoot many regular narrative scenes or doctor’s work with 12K, just to finish on 4K or 2K timeline. But the camera allows you to shoot at low resolution, as well as with 12K option when you need it. It is better to have an option than not having elections.
The real title for me is 16 stops of Kalpana Dynamic Range. I am not among those who are lab coats who can tell you how correct this number is for mathematical precision. But, in my previous experience, the blackmazic design occurs on the more accurate side when quoting the dynamic range of your cameras than some contestants. Therefore, I am confident that 16 stop number is at least in ballpark. And, even in Ballpark, it is very good.
Because the cost of full kit is $ 14,995 ($ 16,495 with EVF kit), $ 2,595 unlike 6K 6K, full 12K LF package is definitely required to be a deep dive in the price offer. We have already mentioned 12K and Dynamic Range. The next most notable facility is created in the list 8TB Media ModuleThis was the reason for some discussion on the launch of the camera. Essentially, instead of using the CFEXPRESS card, the camera comes with all the storage that you will possibly need as an 8 TB SSD drive manufactured specially for this camera. The opposite of this setup is that you will no longer have to do mathematics in your head to ensure that your chosen media will be able to handle the full range of functionality that the camera can provide. In addition, I all like the idea of having 8 TB on the board all the time and does not really need to change the card in most days of my shoot.
Of course, it also comes with some shortcomings. For one, the media is owned. So that your purchase options are limited. Also, if you want to close that 8 TB drive in a traditional way on your computer, a separate $ 1,995 media dock is required. However, it should be told that you can also take off on the Ethernet without the need to buy media dock. Nevertheless, this is an idea.
The camera can dislease Enamorphic, Shoot Open Gate, which is designed to provide electricity to the camera throughout the day in variable NDS, WiFi and SRT live streaming, three admitted lens mounts and a V-mount plate. The kit also includes a top handle, shoulder mount, and supports Ursa Cine EVF ($ 1,695 separately or part of a large kit). The camera offers a variety of frimit options, making it well suited for many scenarios. You can shoot 12k in 12k 17: 9 or 120 FPS in 12k 2.4: 1 widescreen 100 FPS. In 8K, you can shoot 144 FPS at 8,192 x 5,360 or 180 fps at 8,192 x 3,408, and even capture 8k 2.4: 1 widescreen at 224 FPS.
Compared to other blackmizic design offerings, this camera is definitely not cheaper. But, comparing its glasses for the competition, once again, the company is offering a lot more value for a (relatively speaking) low amount.
Then, the Blackmogic design announced one step forward by announcing that they would soon offer an offer. Only increased body option For less than half the price!
For only $ 6,995, you get fast frame rate options for those 16 stop of dynamic range, 12K and full kit. What you don’t get are stuff. Instead of coming up with three interchangeable mounts (EF, LPL, PL), the stripped-down version comes only with the locking EF Mount. As someone who owns EF adapters for many EF cinema lenses and PL, it works for me. The camera comes without a top handle or shoulder mount. Depending on your shooting style and current accessory kit, it can be a big thing for you. Most especially, the body-level option is going to come with a dual CFEXPRESS media module instead of 8 TB SSD modules of full kit. This can actually be better for some users. However, I am not yet 100% certain to whether there will be some limitations regarding shooting speed when using CFEXPRESS vs. built-in 8 TB drive. Hopefully, I will get a chance to review a deep dive of the camera soon and may come back with complete information.
Now, depending on your situation, it may still be more understandable to choose a full kit option than going to the slim-down version. This is not, as I have seen, a value fall on the kit. Rather, you are leaving part of the kit with the notion that you will solve those people in another way. And, depending on whatever I know till now, those needs do not seem unimaginable. But, if I was starting fresh and already there was no closet filled with accessories such as top handles and shoulder mounts, it could actually make more financial understanding to invest in the entire kit for more turnky solutions.
What is the best for you will depend on your particular situation. But which is clear, once again, it is that blackmazic design seems to be committed to listening to filmmakers and offering products in a price-operated form that is obtained for their chief customer base. To ensure this, it does not invite some benefits conducted by other brands. But the obvious advantage of the BlackMasic design system is that it is almost impossible to defeat the price proposal. Pooking every money for independent filmmakers, value for your money matters. And, from that perspective, the blackmazic design kills the nail on the head correctly.
