British rally championship winner and M-Sport founder Malcolm Wilson has been nominated as his favorite candidate by FIA President Mohammad Ben Suleyam, who was successful as the Vice President of the governing body for the game.
Members will vote on this at the extraordinary General Assembly and Conference in Macau in June.
Reid resigned from the role earlier this month, citing a ‘breakdown of standards’ and said: “Over time, I have seen a stable erosion of principles that we promised to maintain. The decisions are being made behind the closed doors, people are present to ignore many structures and represent the FIA.”
Wilson is a big hitter in the rally world as both a driver and entrepreneur. His long relationship with Ford converted him into a 1994 British rally championship, and M-Sport won the World Rally Championship for manufacturers in 2006 and 2007.
He was awarded the order of the British Empire in the HM the Queen Birthday Honors list in 2009 for services for motorsports.
Located in the Dovenbi Hall near M-Sport, Cockermouth, Kumbriya, Ford’s return as Ford’s withdrawal as a work unit for Wilson’s enthusiasm of entrepreneurship. Beyond the rally, it has created customer engines for the British Touring Car Championship, run Bentley’s GT3 campaign and participated with Jaguar on the I-Pace Atrophy Support series for Formula E.
In the official statement of the FIA, Mohammad Ben Sulem said, “I am happy to nominate Malcolm Wilson OBE for the role of FIA Vice President for the game.”
