Architect Orlando Denardi uses adobe brick, tropical plants and huge sliders to give a bright, new approach to the ’80s penthouse.
Orlando Denardi and Arthur Machao had two requirements when they were looking for a new apartment in Sao Paulo: to get closer to their friends, and to find a unit with a dedicated outdoor location. “It was a dream,” says Orlando.
At that time, they lived in a remote area, so socialization meant a taxi or a lot of trains-and they pitying a connection for the outside, although they knew that it was a big inquiry in the dense city of high-growing buildings. “We are piles, and over time are getting more piles,” says Arthur.
Fortunately, one of the doubles hobbies is scrolling real estate listing, so they found a penthouse apartment in the Pineheros neighborhood before just six months have passed. Building- those who call neighbors SenoroOr “Big Carrot” – is originally designed by the architect Arya de Quiroz Barros In the early 80s, and the couple states that it was notable to focus on the duplex apartments.
Architect Orlando Danardi and husband Arthur Machao (painted with her cat, Theo) bought their Sao Paulo, Brazil Apartments in 2021. It was a lucky discovery: a penthouse with an courtyard and two floors were spread over 1,345 sq ft.

In the traditional penthouse, Arthur says, the roof is located away from the upper level and separates from the main living places, which are usually at the lower level. Arthur says, “Then you have to keep another half bath and up in the kitchen for entertainment.” The Cenoro Penthouse Plan with the roof from the lower level living room is flipped. “In this case, the configuration is like a house,” says Orlando. “Social sectors are downwards, with out.”
However, the rest of the floor plan was suffering from tight, compartmentalized rooms, with some triangular corners and diagonal walls. “It took me some time to see the ability, because it was very fragmented,” says Arthur.
