During the design phase of the project, the homeowners worked with Saylor remotely. They flew regularly for in-person meetings, while others held virtual meetings. When he could not come to see them in person the seller sent him samples by mail. For important decisions like countertop stone, they came back and visited the stone yard to choose their slabs. One reason he moved back was to be closer to family, so design trips also doubled as family trips.
The primary bathroom is part of new construction at the rear of the house. “The site is very private, located on a winding gravel road,” says Saylor. “There is a huge change from the front to the back of the house and all they see from the windows is the forest. It was important for him to feel open to nature.
This includes lots of windows and glass doors in the bathrooms, allowing for views and light. The door leads to a covered balcony. The extension of the roof over the balcony protects the room from direct sunlight and provides protection from the elements when homeowners want to step out for some fresh air.
