“Like the first dentistry practice, the concept aligns with the client’s brief to create an interior design that evokes the ambiance of an art gallery,” Patrick Batek, founder of Batek Architekten, tells Dezeen.
“The bright, minimalist space serves as a practical setting for daily therapy operations and a showcase for the client’s carefully selected pieces, adding a distinctive and personal touch to the practice.”
At the center of the 200-square-metre interior, a green acrylic glass cube that reaches floor to ceiling holds space for the clinic’s personnel.
Batek chose to add colored cubes to the otherwise mostly white space to create an eye-catching contrast that also reflects the design of the original clinic.
“Strategically located, it becomes the focal point of the practice, with functional rooms thoughtfully arranged around it,” he said.
“With its choice of materials and comparatively deep, bold color, it adds an accent – similar to the yellow reception area of the previous design – while enclosing spaces specifically designated for staff use.”
“In line with the corporate design, green was selected as a counterpart to the distinctive yellow from the first exercise,” he said. “This choice allows both colors to coexist harmoniously while maintaining a clear distinction between them.”
Around the green box are waiting areas and treatment rooms, with doors made of walnut wood and “cathedral glass”.
These materials were chosen in contrast to the minimalist materials used in the rest of the clinic.
“The floors, walls and ceilings have been designed in bright, clean white to meet the practical demands of the space,” Batek said. “It is important that surfaces comply with hygiene regulations and are easy to clean.”
The reception area also includes touches that were added to accentuate the gallery experience, including a light green partition wall and a desk with a decorative gray pattern.
“The partition wall made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic and the reception counter made of foamed aluminium, stand out as artistic elements within the interior due to their unusual materiality, thus aligning with the overall design,” Batek said. “
Also adding a touch of color to the space are the bathrooms and sanitary spaces, which were “completely immersed” in pastel-pink.
Furniture made from organic materials including leather and wood gives a warm feel and matches the walnut wood door frames of the function rooms.
Batek’s aim was to make visitors feel as if they were visiting an art gallery rather than their dentist.
He concluded, “Visitors should feel as if they are in a gallery, which is as homely as a private apartment.” “Carefully chosen furniture, artwork and fixtures should reinforce this charming, artistic ambiance.”
