Mast re -connected the port edge in Rotterdam
With a radical new proposal by Danish Maritime Architecture Studios Easy GoingThe sporwegheven neighborhood of the Rotterdam is ready for a change. In the heart of a disorganized dock in the south of the city center, the team is based on one Temporary community. Locally based contractor with bike boo, Prefabricated, Modular The project will bring more than one hundred apartments supported by a new port for public green space, moorings, commercial units and holidays. It is a plan informed by its local reference and extended to the continental ambition, which is the largest floating housing development proposed in Sporvegheven Europe.
The proposal reflects the spatial pressures faced by the entire cities NetherlandsFacing the need to produce a million new houses within the decade, and with very less empty land for construction, the country is turning to its most abundant resources: water. The design of the mast reacts with a flexible model for development that bypasses the ecological cost of dragging or land recurrence. In sporeweghaven, you can expand your housing stock without eradicating the identification of the port.

A porous and partnership landscape
The floating community of Mast in sporeweghaven will mix in existing fabrics of Rotterdam by bicycle and boat. The site’s plan expands local cycling routes and introduces new blue corridors of transport, making a comfortable relationship between land and water. The design includes bridges at both ends of the dock, which enables pedestrian access to floating walkway, public pierce and bicycle storage. These threads resume the port in the daily flow of the city, which restore continuity for one-time stretch.
The project is conceived as a layered citizen place. Communal parks, floating parks and shared roof roofs are arranged to encourage both calm retreat and spontaneous gathering. The architecture takes back to places to give space to be visible and accessible to the port. Instead of closing the water, the project pulls it, inviting it to be part of everyday social fabric.

Prefabricated for low impact urbanism
Mast’s plans for Sporveghavan will also support the aquatic life of Rotterdam. In collaboration with biometrics, the mast will install more than 900 square meters of floating readbades with the circumference of the port. These islands act as natural filters, making pollutants from water, building houses for birds, fish and inattenards. The design contributes to the city’s broad ecological networks, showing how architecture on water can become an engine for environmental repair.
Once running, construction will take the shape of off-site. The floating structures of the mast will be made of CLT and will gather away from the dock before swimming in the place. This prefabricated method significantly reduces construction noise, traffic and physical waste in the neighborhood. It also allows for reflection: homes can be fully moved or eliminated if the conditions of the site change. Such adaptability is at the core of the mast strategy for circular design.
