Architecture firm Amasa Estudio Different types of metal elements are added to a cylindrical from a spiral ladder LightningRenewing Casa Sofia in the 1940s house Mexico City,
Casa Sofia, located in the city’s Roma neighborhood, created several interventions as it was built and recently used as offices.
Amasa EstudioThe redevelopment of the derogatory structure came to a redevelopment amid high demand for real estate in the vibrant region.
The studio said, “This demand, in collaboration with zoning sanctions, which often prevents further development, has promoted the increasing number of abandoned houses in Roma, left empty as part of real estate speculation,” the studio said.
The studio said, “As soon as the property was canceled for about 10 years, the challenge to revive its original essence by meeting contemporary needs, and showing how to integrate new life and functionality in historical buildings of the region by integrating modern elements,” The studio said.
Instead of converting the building into a single-family house, it was decided to create a ground-floor apartment with an alternative commercial space in the garage.
The main residence is then located on the first floor and above, with an inverted layout that looks down the private locations below the communal area at the top.
The studio said, “This approach preserved the house, maximizing its utility, not only offered a residence, but also a potential business model.”
The road-level entrance is rowed with vestibules gray plaster that matches the exterior and leads to three different components of the building.
On the left, apartments include a bedroom, a bathroom, a living dining room, a kitchen and a courtyard.
The garage-cum-commercial location is on the left, with a large double door that opens on the pavement and if necessary, a separate bathroom for the use of the employee.
A Chaiti -colored ladder begins as a straight flight before switching to a spiral shape as it climbs through the building.
On the first floor, a central corridor provides access to three bedrooms and two bathrooms – one of which is decorated with yellow tiles.
The top level is a fully open plan, allowing future residents to arrange their living space as desired.
The gables throw light on this location through the glazing installed in gables, a strip of clusters windows that combine divided ceiling aircraft, and a wall of glass doors that bends back to connect with the ceiling.
An additional cylindrical skylight above the ladder sends more light to the blank space directly below.
The studio said, “Light mainly enters from above, creating a shelter and intimate atmosphere on the lower levels, enhanced by the chosen color palette and finish.”
A shadow of Pale Till Green was used for metal work including structural and window frames, doors, stairs, railings and skylight.
The kitchen millwork was colorful in the same color, which complements the Oriented-Strand Board (OSB) covering the living area sealing.
“The reflection (on metal), pronounced by light, harmoniously contrasting with gray plaster walls, building a dynamic and harmonious beauty,” said Amasa Estudio.
