In the living room, the furniture designed by the studio for ancient Greece. A hand carved stone chimney, inspired by the Greco-Fresons folk art, is placed on a travertine base between the two windows with an acropolis scene. Custom furniture and 19th century Greek craftsmanship
Custom furniture complements the vintage italian design lamps by Achille and Pier GiaComo Castiglioni. A brombari lamp by Guzini sits on the 19th -century Greek trolley, while a Sirio lamp illuminates an art deco coffee table. A contemporary TGV aluminum lamp is supplemented by a Greek Cipolino marble bookcase designed by Iona Vatrin. The ancient pieces, a 19th -century wooden car, introduce various dimensions of historical memory from a 19th -century wooden car, a handcraft Greek mirror, a traditional chair from Skyros Island, and peloponies.
Inspiration from islands
The kitchen is designed in the spirit of the Greek islands; In particular, many accessories take inspiration from the original pink marble floor, which was sour in the skyros. Simple, locally created furniture ahead of traditional island aesthetics. Wood and rope chairs and a wood and marble table that exposes the colored floor. The oak roof flooring is placed in a herringbone pattern with black marble in the entrance (from Varia, Greece), while the kitchen preserves the original pink marble floor from the skyros.
The bathroom, also, pays tribute to the Greek marble mines. The widely used white kawala marble is combined with Cipolino Green Marble, whose veins produce rainbow reflections of the Eagian Sea.
Designer Elena Alexopolos and Jonathan Stein discussed all the details of renewal
The apartment was once related to Elena’s grandmother about how this emotional relationship affected your architectural options?
Stein alexopolos: It was complex. To help preserve the spirit of the place, we placed the original layout of the rooms and even the placement of the furniture: the dining table remained in the same place as the couch did. The floor -inserts were also preserved in punk, black, and the roof -wood of the duration, both due to their excellent position and because they represent the soul of the apartment. In addition, there are several 19th century pieces related to Elena’s grandmother to help mold the house in family history, as well as with chimney which is of great emotional value. Since his father also lived there as a child, it was natural to include him in renewal: his painting and the ceramic piece with a local workshop was placed over the chimney. Finally, the father of a close family friend, Costas Coolantianos, completes idols, family and cultural theme.
