Young basketball players prepare to head to Lethbridge for new provincial tournament – Lethbridge


Dave Drabiuk, the executive director of the Alberta Basketball Association describes Lethbridge as a “hotbed of southern Alberta basketball” as the city prepares to host the first-ever edition of a new tournament for young players.

“We are delighted to bring the very first ABA “Club Invitational in Lethbridge,” Drabiuk said in a news release Friday, adding that Lethbridge is “a perfect location to launch” the new annual tradition.

The inaugural ABA Club Invitational will be held in Lethbridge and will feature Alberta’s top 13 and under and 15 boys and girls club basketball teams.

The tournament will take place from July 19 to 21 and will see the best clubs of girls and boys aged 13 and 15 compete. basketball Teams from all over the province compete.

The ABA, a non-profit organization and the governing body of basketball in Alberta, said participating teams are based on status as “members in good standing of the ABA.”

“The ABA Club Invitational is an opportunity for Alberta clubs to compete at the highest levels in a safe environment,” said Drabiuk.

“(The tournament) will showcase the tremendous young talent in our province, many of whom will go on to play basketball in the ACAC, U Sports and even the NCAA.”

The ABA announced that the final draw for the tournament will be released next week. Games will be held at the University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic.
