Varun’s inclusion is an important development that considers these ODIs against England, the first 50 over game that India has been playing since August last year and is the only series before the upcoming Champions Trophy. The Champions Trophy squad has several expert bowlers – Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah – are on a return mark from injuries. Bumrah is only part of the squad for the third ODI against England, for the first two matches with Harshit Rana in 16.
India plays England in Nagpur, Cuttack and Ahmedabad on 6 February, 9 and 12 before going to Dubai for the Champions Trophy. They can change their Champions Trophy squad by 11 February without approval from the ICC.
