On Thursday, searching for some photos for an upcoming article through my archives, I came in a series of images, which brought back memories of amazing moments spent in nature. This time it was Costa Rika. A photo especially smiled me again after all these years – a shot of a frigatebird, fear of tropical seas, a little lyricist, running away from the tropical kingbird. This reminded me of the old story of David and Golith.
Recent announcements
- Yashika City 100: A compact camera (220G) with a mysterious CMOS sensor resolution can be adjusted from 5MP to 72MP (originally 13MP). The sensor diagonal is probably 5.867 mm (type 1/3.0). From this we can claim that the manufacturer’s claimed zoom focal length range is 3.45 mm-10.5 mm (f/1.6–2.8) equivalent to about 26–78 mm on full-frame cameras. The minimum focus is 0.5 m. Nikon Z 35 mm F/1.2? Maybe this February!

Pentax K-3 Mark III can find successor

Powershot V: Cannon’s new line of compact cameras

Good deals and new sales
Last night, my friend and I was sitting with a flickering fire in the fireplace, we got to talk about the lens. Naturally, the question came: “If you can have only four lenses, regardless of the cost, which will you choose?” To make it more challenging, we allowed ourselves only one zoom in selection. So, how did it come out? Here’s my last choice:
- Nikon Z20mm F/1.8S ($ 1,047, now $ 947): A wide sufficient lens for most scenarios. Fast F/1.8 aperture is perfect for shooting in nitscape or dense forests. A hidden advantage of this lens is its 0.2m minimum focus distance, which works great for the Wide-Angle Close-up.
- Nikon Z 35 mm F/1.8S ($ 847, now $ 697): A major thirty five had to be on my list. If Nikon ever releases 35 mm f/1.2 a long -awaited 35 mm, I can buy it, but until then, I will be fully happy with F/1.8 version. This is my favorite focal length for shooting-style shooting-not too tight, not too wide. Wide Open, it still provides good theme isolation by capturing the surrounding reference.
- Nikon Z 100-400 mm F/4.5-5.6 VR S ($ 2,697, now $ 2,297): My path for this lens was somewhat round, as I was initially considered Nikon z85 mm f/1.2 ($ 2,797, now $ 2,597) and Nikon Z 105 mm F/2.8 Macro ($ 1,047, now $ 847). However, I eventually accepted- begrudgingly- that I will not use a portrait or macro lens. The practical option was 100–400 mm, which bridges the gap between very neatly wide angles and long telephoto lenses. About 300 mm, it is impressively sharp and even “macro” abilities are respected.
- Nikon Z 600 mm F/4 TC VR S ($ 15,497 was, now $ 13,997): I consider briefly Nikon Z 400 mm F/2.8 TC ($ 13,997, now $ 12,997), but for bird photography, 600 mm is simply better option-especially the short focal length with 100–400 mm was covered. This was the easiest decision of all of them – nothing is better.
