Ruiz reminds people that in the smartphone age most residents have more documents than they realize.

“You probably have a list, even if it’s not intentional, right on your phone,” she says. “You’ve probably taken photos and videos of events or celebrations taking place in your home.”

And, when you clean and rebuild, always make sure you take pictures. Everything The way it was before you moved or changed it.

What do I do once my insurance company processes my claim?

When you start receiving insurance settlement checks, you may notice that the check is made out not just to you, but to your bank or mortgage company. Contact the bank or mortgage company to find out how to access your funds.
