Many of the most beautiful pieces from Reem Acra’s Pre-Fall collection — like a silver boatneck sleeveless gown adorned with crystals and pearls and a strapless satin number in a striking metallic floral with a cascading train — are in Los Angeles, sent to Busy Awards currently running From season one designers to celebrity stylists. However, it will be some time before those designs hit the red carpet, as wildfires in California have put a halt to any celebrations there.
This season the designer looked to her homeland Lebanon and its neighboring countries for inspiration. “I was inspired by the desert rose because I visited the Middle East just before this collection,” she explains. “So you see a lot of delicate and delicate flowers, a little bit of lace, a contrast of black and gold to deep colors, to showcase the beauty of the desert landscape against the resilient vegetation.” There, her best-selling silhouettes are loose-fitting kaftans that certainly differ from Europe and America’s more obviously fitted and sexy tastes, but they certainly don’t lack glamour.
