Detroit – ford motorCEO Jim Farley said Thursday night that operations in China earned about $600 million last year despite challenging market conditions.
“I’m happy to say that Ford makes money in China, and I’m very proud of that, because a lot of (automakers) don’t say that,” Farley said after unveiling a vehicle for the Detroit auto show. Can.”
Farley said those earnings include exports of vehicles such as the Lincoln Nautilus, which is produced specifically in China for other markets such as the US.
China has been a challenging market for automakers, especially Western legacy companies like Ford and General Motors.
Ford doesn’t report earnings by region, but Farley has previously touted the company’s evolving “asset-light” strategy in China.
