Lando Norris slammed as ‘silliest rule’ in F1 after COTA track limit breach

lando norris The rule has been criticized as the “silliest” in Formula 1 after receiving multiple track limit warnings during the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas.

mclaren badly assaulted the driver charles leclerc after losing second place to ferrari Driver at Turn 1. With Leclerc’s strong defense, Norris finally made the pass stick after 51 passes between them. But in the process of exciting on-track battle, he crossed the track limits.

While he was able to avoid a five-second penalty, Norris argued that drivers should not be given track limit strikes when they are racing with others. On one occasion, Norris noted, he had attempted to pass the Monegasque driver on the outside, but failed to complete the overtake, so Leclerc lost time and was given a track limit strike.

“I mean, the places where it was easy to go were Turn 9 at the top of the hill, and then the last two corners. I think I was on three strikes by like lap 10. So I didn’t put myself in the best position. But then I had one strike because I was running,” Norris explained during the post-race press conference.

“You know, I think it’s one of our stupidest rules – we’re invited to try and race, but if you race too much, you get a penalty for it. And I got a track limit (strike) for trying to hang out and waste time with Charles.

“So, it doesn’t mean much in terms of actually going into racing. But it definitely made my life a little bit trickier, especially Turn 19, with the wind, as Max said, it was quite inconsistent. Just always being on the limit and not making mistakes – which I obviously made a few too many, too early. But yes, became a little more cautious at the end because I knew I couldn’t afford the penalties. But I took the necessary risks. Pick it up.”

Norris finished second at the United States Grand Prix behind race winner and four-time champion max verstappenLeclerc took the final podium position after crossing the line in third place, followed by his Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton In the fourth.
