Carlos Sainz crashes out of United States GP after clash with Kimi Antonelli

Carlos Sainz is out of the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas after colliding with Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

After starting from ninth on the grid, the Spanish driver collided with the Mercedes rookie at Turn 15 on the seventh lap of the race. While Antonelli was able to continue his race with minor damage, Sainz stopped at the side of the track before the pitlane, and called for a virtual safety car.

“The stewards will decide that it is primarily Carlos Sainz’s fault,” said Martin Brundle. Sky Sports F1 broadcast. The incident has been noted by race control and Sainz is scheduled to meet with stewards after the race.

This comes after the Williams driver finished third in the sprint race in Austin, earning him six points. After qualifying in ninth, he reflected on the strong Saturday with the media: “Yeah, I think we had a really good day today, to be honest, with a very strong qualifying sprint and a very good qualifying session. There’s not much to that lap.

“Obviously, then you look at half a tenth with the top seven or top six and you wonder where that half-tenth could be. But to be honest, my lap was very clean and I felt that since Q1, we were struggling to improve as the wind got stronger. Our car, as always, is very difficult when the wind gets stronger.”

When asked if he was happy with the car now, he said: “I’ve been really happy all year. I’ve been fast all year. It’s just that in three races in a row, nothing has gone our way.”

“We had a good qualifying session and a good race. And as I always say, in an athlete’s life, there are good races and bad races when things go against you. Or there are also moments when things go in your favor. I was in a very bad position at the beginning of the year. But as soon as the bad situation ended, I got back to where I know I can be.”

Sainz is clearly a favorite among the local fans as he faced a cheering crowd after finishing third in the sprint race.

That’s probably the biggest thing for me today. Just seeing that everyone in the crowd seems to be behind us, behind me, behind Williams. It feels like people really believe in the underdog story and the rise of the team.

And obviously, my move and my move to this team. Everyone has come along with me and supported me in my journey. As an athlete and a driver, it feels really special when you get such good support from the crowd. So from here, thank you very much, because I really felt it.”
