If you have dreamed about editing and retaching on a large screen with a pen, it can be the right time to get because the new generation pen displays have arrived, and they are equally good now, or perhaps better than your computer monitor.
Not long ago, pen displays were very rare and usually offered sub -displays for editing use. They were able to show images on their screen, but for clarity and color accuracy, one would usually have to mirror it on a high-quality screen. It has certainly changed how extraordinary performances are now being used on even larger tablets, and XPpen artist Ultra 16 aims to strengthen it as the first 16 -inch OLED Pen display of the industry.
Xppen artist Ultra 16
Artist Ultra 16 is originally a very slimmer form of Xppen’s pen display, such as the artist Pro 24 that we reviewed last year. However, it is due to a slight change in appearance, in fact, a much more impressive change in hardware and functionality. This can be a perfectly a small screen, but is the first OLED pen display to be as larger as 16 inches. Because of that, it provides better color performance and, with it, more efficient functionality.

Construction and design
Artist Ultra 16 Without installing the stand, 405 x 273 mm slate with a maximum thickness of 13.5 mm and weighs 1.53 kg. The top surface mainly consists of 344.2 x 193.6 mm screen that provides a 15.6 -inch workspace and performance, surrounded by 30 mm frames and sides at the top, as well as with a 50 mm taped edge on the bottom.
On top edge is a pair of USB-C port for display input, pen/touch output and power supply. These ports are compatible with supplied cables that can function in the host computer with either a single USB-C in the host computer or with a combination of 3-in-1 cable and AC power supply.
The same edge has a set of control buttons. On the right side is the power button, it has a pair of directional buttons to adjust the brightness of the screen next to it, and based on the preference of the user, to enable multi-touch sensitivity/disabled, the left button is a quick shortcut.
There is a bare surface with a couple of rubber pads for friction at the bottom of the panel. This can usually be sufficient if the display flat on a desk is used with the appropriate height and the angle of viewing. Otherwise, the included stands consist of pre-installed adhesives that stick to the marked spot, provide more options for height and viewing angles. This stand can be switched between a set of 1-inch or 2 inch legs, which tilt the performance to different angles. In addition, there are now Vesa Mounting screws on the back, which can also be used for more modular use.
Display
The display takes the entire 344.2 x 193.6 mm active area and 16: 9 aspect ratio comes in the shape of the AMOLED panel. This is mainly that this display distinguishes the display from other large pen displays in the market, as as its release, it is the first and the only OLED pen display larger than the 13 -inch (WACOM MOVINK 13). Establishment of
Setting the display for most devices is too much plug-and-play. For any recent-model desktop or laptop computer, a single USB-C pen can provide both input and power to the display. However, for some other people, it will require to use 3 -in -1 cable for HDMI input and pen/touch input. Once the driver is installed and the appropriate cables are plugged, the display will automatically make the main display (if using several), and the touch function should already work.
Further adaptation will include adjusting the pen pressure curve as well as assigning keys on shortcut remote for more efficient use. The user can either neutralize the touch function or choose a specific area on the screen that will unknowingly sensitive to avoid input.
Application and user experience
This 16-inch OLED distinguishes the experience of using a multi-touch pen display, a combination of its characteristics and even small details. This is an incarnation of the fact that pen display technology has caught the screen with technology that we use only to see. Being a large functional field (in my case, because I use 14-inch MacBook Pro) gives you yourself immersed in images you are working, and using simple pinch gestures allows you to zoom further.
However, using this pen display is still highly sensitive to status factors. While it has a very broad viewing angle, it is important to keep it relatively vertical, especially when there are strong light sources all around. The two-step stand technically provides three viewing angles, but the experience can certainly be extended if more options were available (most likely using other separately sold stands).
As a photographer, my use of a pen display is certainly less comprehensive what painters and designers will do, but I cannot deny this feature and update the offer of software tools. To resume my real estate photography, the task is often as simple as to surround and remove unwanted dislocation. Of course, it comes with the assurance that your colors are what you intend to be them and you are clearly looking at them, as you will do on a regular high-resolution, color-colored monitor.
