Handric Crew Chief says that we will not get back to 1995 Bristol by ‘Shreeding’ tire


On Siriusxm Nascar Radio’s ‘The Morning Drive’, Rudy Fugle, Drawage Head for Number 24 Hendric motorsports Chevarlet and driver William BayronIn the last weekend, he offered his views on Bristol’s return to ‘Caos Tire’.

Killing the ‘Magic Track Temperator’, the Bristol Night Race produced 36 lead changes (compared to just four in the spring race), but also 14 warnings.

Fugle gave an interesting perspective on Monday, given that what we saw was more about the tire than the actual tire fall, and it was not a true return to the ‘old school’ bristle racing. He also believes that cooler temperatures had a greater impact than the new right-side tires, claiming that the old tires have reacted equally in equal conditions.

“Whoever took this decision, I am not in those conversations, but we were told that this plan was,” Fugle said. “They wanted it to be that kind of race. I don’t know that it is 100% a good thing. If we were running the old right side tires, we were going within a couple’s degree of threshold, which again on the tires wearing or not, someone feels what we want to do.

“If someone asks for my help, what sometimes they do or not, I do not even know what the goal is. Does fans want one of those two races, or they want with 1995? If they want 1995, it was not one of those races, either in my opinion, which was looking out of an 11-year-old child and they were all.

Bristol has made several changes since 2007, initially giving it progressive banking and making the top lane prominent. In an attempt to go back, the track fell down from the top lane and after the track developed, it was low and low like the bristle that sold out over the years. The series officials also put dirt on it at one point and to rule the spark.

Fugle talked about all that, and as he had already indicated, he simply wants a clear vision for the future of racing in Bristol – no matter what could happen.

“If we want (1995 Bristol), we get it to put it on the wall and then say what we are trying to achieve,” Fugle said. “We are not trying to clip 40 laps and tires and whatever a dirt or whatever. Any of those things is fine. When we run, we line and run. And each of those types of races is challenging on every team, drivers, and we enjoy that challenge differently.

“You just want to know what to expect … we do not even know what the goal is, so once we determine what the goals are to please someone, we will try to fight it, but I do not even know what we are trying to achieve.”

As he reflected on the race, Fugle said he realized what was happening around Lap 25. “Nobody was sure that it was going to happen, therefore, it was a surprise that when we start collecting marbles on the outer grooves, it was once a sign. It was a sign, perhaps (lap) 25, but I saw that William and I started running down.

And when tire protection became important for a successful night, Fugle claims that you could not do much from behind the wheel.

“You were not under its control, which was – which was my disappointment. And this is the thing that made it a compelling, but this tire was more tired than the decline. You wanted to keep drivers under control and they were not under control because you want them to ‘tire saving race’. It was a difficult part.

The strategy was also difficult to plan, quickly adjusting to ‘safe mode’ and starts to adjust the car for updated positions. Another curlball was the amount of tires at their disposal. While the Goodyer eventually released an additional set, Fugle said that there were about 100–150 laps when they were not sure if it was about to happen.

“It was really difficult to plan, and used your tires sets in any different way because there was big, and then I thought (while) was getting ready for stage 3, we were told that they were about to be released, and then our strategy was able to make a little more, clear cuts because we knew that we knew that we were going to have an additional set of tires.

“… It was a lot of tipping all night.”

The unexpected night did not go on the way to number 24, as Bayaran damaged the mid-race to the nose and then knocked in the wall on the final restarted within the top ten, finished 12th.

“This is only Hemakers coming from everywhere,” said Fugle. “You didn’t even know where the punch was coming from. Therefore, it was very difficult.”
