Apple has announced the final cut camera 2.0, a major update for its professional video capture app, which includes advanced film production tools introduced in the latest iPhone model, including iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max,
Last cut camera 2.0 The update introduces the support for the PrOS RAW and Genlock on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, expands creative options with the center stage front camera control in all iPhone 17 and iPhone air smartphones, and echo more tightly with the final cut pro on MAC and iPad.
Bringing professional features for mobile film production
Final cut camera 2, available at the app store for free, is designed to take advantage of the powerful camera system of iPhone to provide access to professional level tools to filmmakers, journalists and content creators. Persus adds RAW and Genitalack support to version 2.0, allowing iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max to work better as high-end, professional-grade mobile cinema cameras.
“Final cut camera allows further adaptation to video recording with access to settings such as white balance and manual focus,” Apple explains.
Open gate recording is another attraction of update, which uses full camera sensors to see a wider area in resolutions beyond the DCI 4K. This gives editors flexibility to resume shots, stabilize footage and choose the final aspect ratio during post-production, without losing all image quality.
The final cut camera 2.0 introduces the first prior raw capture on the smartphone, allowing users to record untouched sensor data for maximum creative freedom. Apple’s media engine ensures that these files remain efficient, which can lead to faster export and small file sizes than other raw formats. Editor using the final cut Pro 11.2 or Final Cut Pro for iPad 2.3 can adjust the exposure, color temperature, tint, and application directly within the app.
“Prres Raw gained rapid export and small, more flexible files than other raw formats, providing a unique post-production experience,” explains Apple.
Version 2.0 also adds genlock support to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which allows many devices to synchronize for a shared reference signal. It ensures frame-perfect alignment by mixing iPhone footage along with other cameras. Genlock can be integrated through a new API, and third party support is already emerging, with Blackmagic Design Camera Prodock Among the first people to adopt it.
“This technique allows the creative to get a manual frame-by-frame-frame alignment without getting professional, frame-well editing,” says Apple.
The update adds manual adjustment to the new center stage front camera, which is now available in the iPhone 17 lineup. The larger, square-form sensor offers a wide area of view and high resolution, and users can record the device in horizontal or vertical orientation without rotating. Timecode options have also been expanded, which allows day time, record runs, or external input, which is particularly useful in multicem setup.
Support for 200 mm telephoto camera has also been added, enabling Protus to capture up to 4K60 FPS for greater framing versatility on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Apple log 2 adds an even more wide color sargam in recording prures or HEVC formats, and the final cut pro ensure that the footage maintains the dynamic range and the depth of the color.
With these additions, Apple is creating the iPhone 17 Pro family position as a serious tool for professional film production. Produce Raw, Genlock, Open Gate Recording and Extended Camera Control allows the final cut camera 2 filmmakers to fully capture, edit and create high quality videos on smartphones.
