ExtruDO suspended Casa Plaz on top of the coastal landscape
Extrasido Casa completes the Plaz, a 120 square meter Home In Portugal It responds to the architectural traditions of the region with a simple form that hovers over the ground.
Set in the sloping area of Lorinh, a rural area north of Lisbon, a rural area, known for fruit orchards and its proximity to the surf towns of Arisira and Poinch, the holiday retreat is focused by a crusform podium supported by four load-bearing walls, which is an elevated base to penetrate once. From here, the roofs project in all directions, expand the interior into private outdoor refuge and create an impression that the house floats above the landscape.

Light and sea view
Within the compact plan of Casa Plaz, Lisbon based architect ExtrastuDo organizes the kitchen, food and living areas as a generous central location that opens symmetrically to the three sides, while the bedrooms face the sea towards the south. A void carved in solid amounts makes an open-air courtyard entrance, hidden behind a sliding gate.
To combat the boundaries of the restricted footprint, the team exploits height and light. A large skylight makes the living room feel big, while the house has a series of accurately deployed in the daylight. Every year during four months, the sun beam is detected in every room before sunset, which reaches their most dramatic intensity on the solstice.

A Portuguese house of shape by cooperation and landscape
During construction, close collaboration between extras, clients, and builders allowed unexpected intervention, including gray plaster walls, which were added to bare, niches and purthols, a steel door was replaced with red glass, and selected to resort with a muted palette. The gray employed at the beginning of the house externally gradually earned during the building process, which depicts the hands and decisions of those involved.
The surrounding landscape was treated with restraint. Wild pine trees frame a long swimming pool that moves parallel to the beach, while fruit trees were planted in grid formation on slopes to preserve the agricultural character of the site. From the inside, with windows that completely slide in the walls, the daily life can expand out the outdoors because the horizon opens in all directions. After completion, customers invited Extudo to have the first experience of the house, where architecture gave way to the sound of nature from a nearby creak, which was grounding the project in the atmosphere of the Portuguese coast.
