When it comes to “size customers”, the South -West Airlines rule is adding.
From January 27, when flights are closed with assigned seating, the plus-shaped passengers should “buy the required number of required seats before the journey to get additional, adjacent seats,” the airline said on its website.
Jeff Jenkins, the founder of the plus-size travel blog Chabbi Diaries, said, “I hope consumers know about this change and I wonder if the plus size people will leave when they fly with them because they do not know whether the flight has been sold or not.” USA Today. “It is more concerned about the experience of high anxiety already.”
To advise potential customers whether they require an additional seat, the South -West website Boeing lishes the width of the seat on the Boeing 737 model, flying at the widest of 15.5 inches to 17.8 inches. The airline says that the fixed seat limit is armrest.

Southwest Airlines said in a Fox Business statement, “We are updating many policies as we prepare to sit on January 27, 2026 to our operations, employees and customers. To ensure space, we are communicating with customers who have used additional seat policy, they should buy on booking.”

Passengers who buy an additional seat can be eligible for correspondence if the passenger flight with aircraft (or with passengers traveling on space-educated tickets), both seats are the same fare class and a refund is requested within 90 days of the flight date.

The airline earlier encouraged the plus-shaped passengers to buy two seats, but there were low refund restrictions.

The airline’s website says that plus-shaped customers will have to buy an additional, non-worthy qualified seat to travel in the journey program with the south-western partner carrier.
