Sophia Floersch signs with HMD Motorsports for 2025 Indy NXT campaign

junior formula driver Sophia Floersch Turns stateside for her next racing endeavor as she joins HMD Motorsports Indie in NXT for the 2025 season.

The 24-year-old Floersch, from Grunwald, Germany, is making the move to North America as part of a switch to the top developmental category for the IndyCar Series after extended exposure in several series – mostly junior formula – across Europe. He had his first outing in Indy NXT machinery last month in a series test with HMD Motorsports at Barber Motorsports Park, where he progressed on the pace over the course of 92 laps.

“I am excited to join HMD Motorsports and come to the United States to race in Indy NXT by the Firestone Series,” expressed Floersch. “My aspiration has always been to race with the best of the best. Since the beginning of my career, I have worked very hard with my team every day towards that goal. I have raced in various categories in most racing markets in the world. It was natural for us to try the US now, as it is the largest racing market worldwide.

Floersch becomes the second woman to be confirmed by HMD Motorsports for next season, joining the team with the former NASCAR Xfinity Series driver. “The United States is more open to embracing a female racer, so it makes me very excited and optimistic about things to come,” Floersch said. “The sports, racing, cars and tracks are real and pure. It’s great to be welcomed in such a positive and friendly way. You can feel the real racer energy inside HMD Motorsports. I can hardly wait and will be so excited when it opens in St. Pete in March.”

With the addition of Floersch, HMD Motorsports now has seven drivers confirmed for the full 14-race schedule in Indy NXT for 2025.

Flörsch spent the last two seasons in Formula 3, earning a best result of seventh at Spa-Francorchamps in 2023. He also contested the 2020 campaign in F3, but ended up competing in the DTM and FIA World Endurance Championship the following year. Additionally, she finished ninth in class (LMP2) and 13th overall as part of an all-female cast at the 2020 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
