8 round-trip economy flights to London via Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Virgin Atlantic flights to London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) start at 6,000 points one-way in Economy Classic. You can use Virgin Atlantic’s reward seat checker to find saver fares if they’re available on your route.

In general, you’ll find great value by searching for award flights on partner airlines. You can find a one-way United Airlines economy ticket to Hawaii from the West Coast for 15,000 miles via Air Canada Aeroplan thanks to the carriers’ Star Alliance partnership.

After transferring your Chase points to Flying Blue, you can find a one-way ticket for 14,500 miles to Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) in the Dominican Republic from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Six tickets would cost 87,000 Chase points since you can transfer them to Flying Blue at a 1:1 ratio. Flying Blue often runs monthly Promo Rewards, with which you can find great value on certain routes through the program.

Virgin Atlantic’s published award chart shows that business-class seats on All Nippon Airways flights to Japan from the West Coast would require 52,500 points one-way. This means you could fly round-trip in business class for 105,000 points, which you’d earn from spending to earn the 100,000-point bonus on the Sapphire Reserve.

However, it’s worth mentioning that these award fares are often available just days before the flight. Because of this, flexibility would be the key to this redemption. You can get to Hawaii in United first class if you transfer your Chase points to United MileagePlus. Fly from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole (KOA) on the Big Island for 50,000 miles one-way. The round-trip flight would consume all 100,000 bonus points from the Sapphire Reserve‘s current bonus.

Lufthansa and Air Canada are Star Alliance partners, which means you can find award availability through the award-friendly Aeroplan program, a 1:1 transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards.

You’ll use up all 100,000 points earned with the Sapphire Reserve‘s bonus on a one-way flight to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD). However, as you’ll see from our price comparison, the onboard experience (including Champagne and caviar) ensures you’re getting a high cash value from your points.

Note that when booking Lufthansa first-class seats through partner programs, award availability does not open until a maximum of 14 days before the departure date; however, we’ve seen it open only a few days prior. Therefore, having a flexible schedule is key when wanting to book this deal.

Cash price: $15,658 per one-way flight

1 one-way first-class flight to Athens via Emirates Skywards

Another Emirates fifth-freedom route flies to Athens International Airport (ATH) in Greece from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), connecting the U.S. to Europe in its luxurious first-class cabin.

Transfer 102,000 Chase points to Emirates to travel in a suite with pure sophistication.

Also, keep in mind that Emirates started restricting first-class awards to Platinum, Gold and Silver status members as of May 12. Now, you won’t be able to book this flight if you aren’t an elite member in the Emirates Skywards program.

Qatar Airways’ Qsuite is an industry leader when it comes to the business-class experience, winning Best Long-Haul/International Business Class in the 2024 TPG Awards.

Qatar Airways isn’t a Chase transfer partner. However, you can still get there on 70,000 Chase points. All you have to do is transfer at a 1:1 ratio to British Airways Club. You can then move your Avios to Qatar Airways Privilege Club. British Airways’ website describes this process.
