When we reviewed the Panasonic S1RII, we chose mainly to focus on its stills performance, as Panasonic had already announced that it was working on a software update to add several additional video modes. That update Recently arrivedSo we withdrew S1RII to our studio scene, which includes its performance in various types of frimits and resolutions, including the newly added 8.1k open-gate mode.

Let us start looking at the mode that uses the entire sensor to record 3: 2, 8064 x 5376 image. Unexpectedly, this downsampland provides a noticeable increase in detail compared to the GATE6K Open-Gate Capture that was originally sent with the camera, and the 6K open-gate mode is found in S5i/X and S9 in its other models. Most of the people shooting in this mode will be doing this because they want flexibility to redefine their shots in the post, and high resolution provides that even more; You can also harvest further while maintaining indigenous 4K resolution.

Camera UHD 8K and 1.89: 1 “8.1k”, Capture is obtained from this open-gate region, and its expansion is the same level, although the posts are less flexible, which are thanks to their more delivery-redi aspect ratio. Nevertheless, if you plan to output in 4K, they will offer at least a few rooms to move the frame around.

Standard 4K 24P output cannon’s EOS R5 II and other high-razed cameras are equal to oversamplade mode, although S1RII’s rolling shutter rate will be much higher; See the chart below for its readout speed. Compared to those cameras, 4K modes, which are mainly useful for avoiding overheating or avoiding reaching high framerates, provides better details of S1RII.

*8.1K and 5.9K mode DCI 4K, 8.0K and 5.8k gives the same results as UHD

The story is very similar on 60p, where the 4K footage of S1rii retains an uniform level expansion found in 24P mode, which is good news for anyone that he is expecting to slow down his footage under a light amount, or which prefers the hyper-real look. This, however, comes with a modest crop, and low rolling shutter rate is firmly taken from 12-bit readouts instead of 13-bit one.

While 60p is not available in open-gate mode, you can shoot it on more and more -4K resolutions; It is available in 16: 95.9K mode and 1.89: 1 5.8k mode, which provides a little more details than their 4K counterparts.

120p is available in only 4K resolutions, and the capture has a detailed noticeable disadvantage compared to less frimittees; S1rii is clearly leaving lines to achieve these redout speeds. (Spoiler: Panasonic makes cameras with rapid sensor that is better favorable for shooting at 120p, if it is important for you, stay.)

Raw video

S1rii has several options for raw video recording, including the ability to output 8.1k Open-Gate Raw for a supported blackmagic or Atomos recorder through HDMI as the latest firmware update. This 5760 x 4030 can also record the prurse and prurse raw in the CFEXPRESS card using the native-pixel crop (although currently not 16: 9 options).

Raw Video does not provide dramatic benefits that shooters can be used

We would only recommend a raw workflow for those working on professional presentations that have a compelling reason to use it. While in the raw recording post, the white balance and the glow (‘ISO’) can provide more flexibility to adjust parameters, as We have expanded earlierThis does not provide dramatic benefits that still shooters can be used by comparing RAW and JPEG files.

Shooting raw also requires adequate post-processing to add noise and speed up the noise. And while Prres Raw received support for lens improvement data in 2023, the implementation of Panasonic does not currently support it opposite to Canon or Nikon’s cameras. This adds further work if you are shooting with modern lens designed with geometric deformation improvement as part of their optical formulas instead of older or cinema glass (which will be really, using most people who shoot raw).

Despite all the mode we covered, this article is far from wide. S1rii has a large number of resolutions and frimit combinations; There is a possibility of using more than any one filmmaker or videographer, but it is enough that it is enough flexible that much more can use it to meet its goals.

It provides extraordinary image quality in its high resolutions, and its standard 4K options are also equal with high hybrid cameras, even when hitting up to high frimits. Although it cannot match stacked sensor cameras in every imagination, it is quite cheaper and provides a suit of video support and workflow tools that are unmatched by hybrid mirrorless cameras of other companies.
