Local Architecture Studio Low Design has built a condominium building Philadelphia With a roof roof and interior Courtyard To maximize daylight for residents inside and outside the building.
Francis Apartment Building located in the developing Francisville neighborhood of Philadelphia is clad in the white standing seam Metal And leaves a historical brownstone located in the same long, narrow plot.
The studio wanted to build a building that referred to the neighborhood while living separately.
The studio said, “Behind the beautiful aspect of the historical brownstone, exit the new construction – quietly announced themselves,” the studio said.

Located in the backyard of the brownstone, two residential versions are separated by a brick route that moves through the entire site and connects the flanking roads.
Angans were distributed through the site at the ground level, closing in a thin outer area in the center of the project.
In this place, the studio rolled each volume with juliet balconies, ignoring neighboring units on the way to strengthen the “community spirit” in buildings.
A small courtyard is also located on one side of the building 1, while bends slightly inward on the other side of the building, further reduces mass.

“The project generated as a concept with two ‘boxes’ on the site with flat roofs,” Low Design Principal Ivan Litwin told Dezen.
“We realized that by pulling down the ceiling corners, we can create a range of vaults that reduce the height of the building on the outer edges of the site, both maintain the heights of the long roof and maximize the daylight in the courtyard.”
The geometric roof deck was placed above each volume and is publicly accessible to units below.
On the interior, the anglend corners carry the top-level residential units, causing an impact such as a gabled or attic. Plan across all levels, the plan eventually provides access to a shared courtyard, private balcony, shared roof, or all three.
The studio used a light-dhiny walls and a light palette of wooden flooring to effectively throw light through the interior spaces and used metal nets for the ladder and balcony to create “ether effects” throughout the project.
Overall, the studio demanded to refer to neighboring buildings, which is “striking different”.
