New York Studio Robert M Stern Architects Has been completed Academic building At the University of Georgetown Washington DC Characteristic of establishments by American designer Maya Lin,
Opened in 2024, 150,000 square feet (13,935-class-meter) Aluminum-Plated Building House McCort School of Public Policy at the Capital Campus of Georgetown. The Architecture Studios demanded a balanced reference to the university with the downtown Washington DC.
“The architecture of the new house of McCourt School balances its place within two overlapping references: a well -defined urban university campus and downtown Washington DC,” Ramsa Saathi Graham Visht told Dizen.
“The building reads like the expansion of the capital campus, while the pedestrian also animates experience.”
The studio stated that the primary goal of the project was to unite school functions simultaneously under one roof-20 classes, common, offices, an 400-seat auditorium and in a roof roof-which allow students, employees and faculty to cooperate without creating academic hiezen or silos.
The studio said, “Instead, we designed a ‘traveling ladder’, which serves as the backbone of the building.” “Instead of straight upwards, it detects the ladder building, combining all its levels and users need to move through various social locations – such as lobby, main common, or lounge – when reaching an office or orbit.”
Shown by a white banister that air the winds through the levels of the building, the ladder connects physically and volumetically collaborative and social locations.
The base of the large blocked building is made of cast stone which refers to the neighboring Georgetown Law Center and connects the reconded glass curtain walls.
Plates aluminum panels climb up the upper levels, depict light and divide the mask into small modules through vertical wings and a brissy soil that shades the windows.
The team said, “Vertical feathers and Bris-Soil are held in an AB rhythm on the McCourt school facade, partially inspired by the main building of the Georgetown Law Center, while a neighbor is also buzzing the equally perforated windows of the mid-century structure,” the team said.
External rhythm and material continue in main gathering sites. Here, white oak paneling and terazo flooring with the mother-off-parle agargate gives a deep bounce to the natural light in the building.
The title of the collection of Maya Lynn of site-specific establishments is Maping Hour Place in the World. White pendant lights with smooth organic shapes – named “Birds” – hang over the commons and change the color with the outside season, while directional speakers broadcast audio recording of waterways, wetlands, forests and grasslands on the main ladder.
Ramsa and Lynn cooperated with elliptical pools and indigenous plants on the roof of the sky’s garden that celebrates regional ecology in a stirring city.
The roof wraps the 280 -seat roof site with dark wood paneling and bronze trim and facilitates a composition of green glass marbles on the roof to create a view of a bird of a bird of Potomac watershed.
Recently, Ramsa and BWBR architects completed Teaching center At the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, who promotes cooperation between art and engineering students. Ramsa also worked closely with DLR group to create a pair Demonstration At Ohio State University.
