miguel olivera has revealed that he lost control of his Aprilia MotoGP bike due to a short circuit during practice at Mandalika and broke his wrist.
Trackhouse rider Oliveira was competing in FP1 at the Indonesian GP, a race he won with KTM in 2022, when he was ejected from his Aprilia RS-GP in a left-hand turn sequence at Turns 3-4.
The Portuguese suffered a fracture in his right wrist as a result of the fall and had to be operated on in a hospital in Lisbon shortly after the weekend.
The injury was particularly costly, as it caused him to miss the remainder of the Indonesia round as well as the following four races in Asia and Oceania.
Now, speaking after the season, the 29-year-old has revealed that an electronics issue was the root cause of the catastrophic highside that plagued his final year with Trackhouse.
Oliveira will move on Yamaha-backed Pramac team in 2025Another ex-KTM rider joining is Jack Miller.
“The accident happened due to bad luck: there was a short circuit in the bike’s control unit,” he said during a sponsor event.
“It destroyed all my control systems and I fell over the handlebars.

“When you have an accident like this, injuries are always a matter of luck.
“This is a very complex type of accident. You could be unlucky if you hit the handlebars or fall too hard onto the asphalt.
“However, I quickly returned home and got the surgery done, then everything went well. Now I am in perfect condition.”
After missing the entire Asia/Australia stage, Oliveira managed to return to a MotoGP bike at the final round of the season in Barcelona, finishing 12th in the race.
He admitted that the layoff due to injury was sad, as he missed more races than he expected due to a series of rapid events.
“Recovery was on schedule, in about six weeks,” he said. The problem is that I missed five races in a row.
“It seemed like a long period, but actually it was short. The truth is that I had to watch five races from home.
Oliveira joined Aprilia’s satellite team, run by RNF Racing, in 2023 after a long spell at KTM, during which he won five grands prix.

However, his tenure at RNF/Trackhouse proved difficult, as he failed to achieve a podium finish during his two seasons with the team.
After missing a quarter of the season due to a Mandalika injury, he finished 15th in the championship this year, just ahead of teammate Raul Fernandez.
Summarizing his time at Aprilia, Oliveria said: “These were two years in which I struggled a lot, technically and physically.
“Those were two tough years in my MotoGP career, but I think in the end, it will make me a stronger and more complete rider.
“I was able to adapt to a very different environment than before and I’ve also made some steps forward in my riding style, so I think that’s something positive for my future.”
