Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards The winners were announced today at the competition’s awards night at Oxo Galleries in London. Photographer Milko Marchetti is this year’s overall winner, thanks to his excellent and hilarious image of a red squirrel stuck in a tree, aptly named “Trapped Squirrel.”
Marchetti bested a record number of photographers this year, as the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards received over 9,000 images, the most in its decade of existence. This huge pool of photos was narrowed down to just 40 finalists petapixel Shown in September,
The competition says the final selection this year was challenging, with only a few points separating the top five entries. Ultimately, Marchetti’s hilarious image prevailed.
“I have taken many photographs of squirrels in various situations in Italy over the years, but this struck me as a really strange and strange situation, because this is the very moment when the squirrel is separating its hind legs from the squirrel. For his win, Marchetti receives a once-in-a-lifetime safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya, accompanied by Alex Walker’s Serion, as well as a unique handmade trophy from Wonder Workshop in Tanzania. Marchetti also received a new photography bag from Think Tank.
When Marchetti received the call from Tom Sullam, co-founder of the Nicon Comedy Wildlife Awards with Paul Joynson-Hicks, Marchetti says he jumped with joy and repeatedly shouted, “Wow”.
“Looking at the pictures of the beautiful finalists, I never thought I would be selected. What can I say – I’m very, very happy,” says the winning photographer.
