We got our hands on beautiful new Fujifilm GFX100RF and loved it!

Fujifilm has announced the camera of its youngest and lightest medium format so far, GFX100RF, in the heart of Prague, and we can’t miss it. What are our first impressions? Does it live up to expectations? Or is it more than them? In short, yes. But you are not here for a small version, you are

Really small, really light

When I say small and light, I mean. The camera is lighter than the GFX 50r and even the XC is bundled with a 16–50 mm lens. In terms of body thickness, I will probably compare the spirit of X-pro lineup. It just felt very nice to hand – unbearable, comfortable. Keep in mind that I have already been an ex-pro shooter since coming out, so I do not really need DSLR-style deep grips, which you will not find on such rangefinder-style cameras.

Several controls have come back, including the underlying ISO dial along with fan-psandida shutter speed dial. This is the same mechanism on the X100V, but since the new GFX sensor goes up to ISO 80, there was not enough space for high 10,000 and 12,800 values. For those people, you have to use the “C” position and choose them using your set dial. The aperture ring works in the same way we know since the original X100, with a slight change in the handle. They are more pronounced and round at this time, which is around the flat, slim of the X100 series.

GFX100RF The table brings some new and well thought out ergonomic options. A major feature in front of the body is a cylindrical group of rockers and dial, each with its specific purpose. Above, we find a very touch/closed switch. Just below the switch, your standard front command is dial, which can be used to accommodate the feature you explain through your custom dial settings. It is much wider than the normal phujifilm dial and looks good to use. The lowest position is occupied by the winding used to change the focal length through a digital crop.

Last but at least side-to-side rocker is used to preview aspect ratio and change visual mode.

The entire body of the camera seems to be made with premium and well accuracy. The top cover is designed from a single block of aluminum, making the edges faster and button flush and accurately fitting.

A different aspect

One of the most exciting characteristics is the new dial behind the body dedicated to aspect ratio. From your standard 4: 3, 3: 2, 1: 2, or 16: 9, we also get options for 3: 4, 65:24, and beautiful 17: 6. The last two analogs were inspired by panoramic cameras such as the legendary fujifilm TX-1/TX-2 (also known as Hasselblad Xpan and Xpan II) or moderate format fujifilm GX617. They can be shot in a single frame, which does not require a paning without a 50 megapixel resolution. Such a long and narrow frame sees you the world around you in a different way, completely in new light, and with great enthusiasm. I think if I am the owner of GFX100RF, Dial 17: 6 is most likely.

Not the most bright

The camera is mainly small due to the fact that the lens is fixed to the body in which there is no possibility of changing it. This allowed the Fujifilm to create an optical design capable of sitting close to the sensor, which saves the precious space in the bag. However compact size comes at a cost. The built-in 35 mm lens (28 mm in terms of full frame) is the brightest aperture that is limited to F/4-is not an issue for photography during the time. The depth of the area is still very beautiful, which is looking at the sheer shape of the sensor. Once the light goes down, however, you can find yourself a little limited. There were moments when I was already at a maximum of 12,800 ISO, and the speed of shutter began to reach close to sub -1/50S length. It is still difficult to catch at 102 megapixels with already stabilization, walk alone without it, because this camera lacks both IBI and OIS.

First picture

Yes, the camera has a microphone input and a headphone output, but it is a camera before. Once you get used to new options, it handles it like any other Fujifilm camera. I found it right at home with it.

as mentioned above, GFX100RF The GFX100 II uses a 102-megapixel CMOS sensor of the second generation launched with the release of the II camera a few years ago. It is a very luxurious sensor with close-resulted resolution capacity, fast phase-detection autofocus and decent shutter rates. This is one of the main reasons why Fujifilm at the same time can bear the cost of both the custom aspect ratio crops with digital teleconverted at the same time.

The dynamic range is already well documented, which is to be amazing, grains are very well managed at high ISO values, and sharpness is what we all expect from a medium format camera-non-communing.

What did i like

  • Compact body
  • Lightweight
  • Accurately designed
  • Touch control
  • Aspect ratio dial
  • Re -prepared control
  • Dual SD Card Slot
  • Big battery
  • Leaf shutter
  • Tilt screen
  • Stellar image quality
  • Reliable autofocus
  • Crisp view

What did i dislike

  • Small f/4 aperture (but I need shape-sabrands)
  • Aspect ratio dial needs to enable JPEG files

A full package

I am not fully sure that I will use it as a wedding camera, for example, due to the small F/4 aperture during the evening party. But until then, it looks like a clear choice. As a road and documentary photographer, I think it fully fits such a purpose. Autofocus is enough for most uses, the tracking seems reliable (in a few hours of the test), and the colors produced are simply stunning.

It is a beautiful body, dual SD card slot, a long battery life with NP-W235 battery, a sharp and crisp electronic visible, tilting rear LCD screen, or bundle with a threaded shutter button, and you can just have the right “camera’s winner. Now if you forgive me, I will look at my finance, because the 17: 6 aspect ratio has tilted me obsessed.
