Chromecast 2013 has been my favorite way to stream on my TV, but when Google released Google tv streammer Last year, it became clear that those days were counted. As required, Google is now Officially stopped selling chromecast with Google tv HD and 4KFor those who like a cheap streaming device, the dissection of Chromecast leaves a significant difference in the market. While there are still great options from Roku and Amazon, if you like Google TV – Onn 4K Pro, it is actually only a viable option.
A warning is that the ONN 4K Pro is sold through partnership with Walmart and is only available in North America. If you live outside this market, you either spring for Google TV streamer or take a crosta with Google TV from a retailer with the remaining stock.
To be fair, ONN 4K Pro is not the only official option available in 2025, but I have seen around, and every other affordable box is either three or more years old or more a mini-PC is running Android compared to a proper Google TV device. Conversely, the ONN 4K Pro came only last year, so it is quite young by comparing it.
While the Onn 4K Pro has its positivity, is it really a meaningful option, or are you better to save for Google TV streammer instead? Honestly, after spending several months with it, I think it depends on what kind of users you are and how much tinkering you are doing.
Onn 4K Pro stands out in some major ways

when I first ONN 4K Pro reviewed ,$ 49.88 in Walmart) In the summer of 2024, I was clear that, at least in terms of features and general performance, it was a much more compelling tool than Chromecast with Google TV.
Here are some of the biggest advantages that are at Chromecast on ONN 4K Pro:
- Hand -free voice support: It is a feature that Google is not even a TV streammer! A simple “OK, Google” lets you browse the UI, turn on and off the smart device and even find remote.
- Remote explorer facility: As mentioned, there is an easy remote-finding function. Not only can you activate it through the voice command, but also a physical button in front of the ONN4K Pro box. This feature has since made its way for Google TV streammer.
- A better remote: While the remote is not as good as you will meet with Google TV streammer, this is an improvement on the Cromecast Remote. It has a adaptable button and is easier to catch compared to slippery chromecast remote, although plastic seems a bit cheaper.
- A USB port: I have found the USB port great to load local media, and even items like webcam and gamepad are compatible – although my webcam performance was inconsistent, so your mileage could be different.
Beyond these characteristics, the Onn 4K Pro also claims more powerful processor than Chromecast with Google Tv, 3GB RAM (compared to 2GB on Chromecast 4K), and quadruple storage on 32GB. While I often had to manage the apps aggressively on my Chromecast, there is a lot of space in the Onn 4K Pro. And, as mentioned, there is a USB port if you need additional temporary storage or want to backup files.
Even if Google did not close Chromecast with Google TV, I would still recommend ONN 4K Pro. Right now, it is the closest thing that is “Google TV Strength Light”. Unfortunately, the ONN 4K is a dark side for the Pro: its credibility is not guaranteed.
Long -term reliability of ONN 4K Pro is a concern

Most ONN products are quite decent, but these are budget products, so quality, stability and long-term reliability can be hit-or-mes. The same applies to Onn 4K Pro. After nearly nine months of ownership, I have faced some issues with my unit.
For the first four or five months, the device worked innocently. Over time, however, I slowly began to notice the strangeness that deteriorated. It failed to respond to sometimes with a remote finder button. Eventually, the button completely turned off the brightness, taking the physical remote finder function with it. Thankfully, the Remote Finder Voice Command has still worked.
A few weeks later, I noticed that ONN 4K Pro can no longer wake up my TV, I need to manually turn it on. There was no such issue in my PlayStation 5, so I knew that the problem was specific to the Onn device. I put these inconveniences for a while, but when I started experiencing the performance recession, I decided to investigate further.
ONN 4K is a pro feature-pack, but not without some quirks.
I tried to clean the cash, uninstall uninstalls and maintain general maintenance, but finally, I had to reset the device. Thankfully, everything later worked completely fine.
The Onn 4K Pro was running easily for another two and a half months before the revival of problems, forcing another reset. To be fair, during that second period, I was using some emulator and other apps with side loading, so I could be the real issue here. Nevertheless, it is worth noting.
Is it appropriate to reset a device every two to six months, just to keep it on? Maybe yes maybe not. It depends on how much you think, I think.
To be fair, even my Chromecast with Google TV required a factory reset after about a year. It was dull, due to the use of limited RAM and high storage. There was not much help in removing the apps and cleaning the location, and finally, a reset was necessary.
At the end of the day, any sub-$ 50 streaming device is bound for some shortcomings. Whether or not you are going to deal with those issues.
Are you better than getting Google TV streammer only?

Onn 4K Pro is a great device, but can be tired of its quirks. I have recently considered replacing it with Google TV streammer in my living room, which is only better product-despite the cost of two times and the lack of hand-free voice control and that easy USB port. If you can spend more, Chromecast with Google TVNot only is it more reliable, but it should also be more future-proof and first all the latest Google features.
Walmart ONN 4K Pro
Extraordinary value
Lost remote finder
USB port adds a lot of additional functionality
For people with a budget of $ 50, I still stand by Onn 4K Pro. In fact, when I upgrade in Google TV streams, my Onn 4K Pro will not retire; Instead, it will replace Chromecast with Google TV in my bedroom. It says a lot how I rate ONN 4K Pro against Chromecast with Google TV.
If you do not rely on ONN or do not want to deal with potential quirks, here are some options based on your situation:
- If you already own a Chromecast with Google TV,
- If you need a budget -friendly streaming device, but not a chromecast: You are likely to hunt for a chromecast with Google TV instead of settling for older options like Mi Box S. Many retailers still have stock and are offering aggressive discounts to clean in-store inventory. For example, I recently snatched a chromecast with Walmart from Walmart for only $ 25K. You will probably find refurbished or second-hand wings under $ 25.
Finally, the Onn 4K Pro will not be for all, but if you are working with a budget of $ 50 it remains the best Chromecast option. The real question is whether this is right for you.
