The Canadian Football League has reached the week 7, which means that we are in a third way through the season and it is time to start believing what this team is telling us.
We are also back in a regular four-game week, so we have an additional opportunity to find an edge, so let’s get it.
Calgary Stampeders-Shukrawar in Vinypeg Blue Bombers (-3.5), EDT at 8:30 pm on July 18
Stampders will be seen to be warm as they carry blue bombers at Manitoba Capital this week. The way both teams have played so far this year, it can be a very well waste final preview and can lead a long way to decide who will host that game.
Calgary opened a lot of eyes with her performance against Vinypeg two weeks ago. He maintained that pace to move first in the West Division with a 24–10 win against Suskechewan Rafridrs last week. As I said at the inauguration, it is time to start believing what this team is selling and right now, the stampders look as if they are selling a Ferrari.
Calgary’s crime has been dynamite this season in which Vernon Adams has shown its MOP form. With the Center under the VA, Stampeders have the second best pure crime in the league and is just 32 yards behind the former Calgary Quarterback Bo Levi Michelle for most of the passing yard in the Adams League.
A player who enjoyed the initial success to VA is Damian Alford, who showed everyone from Suskechewan why he was the first overall pick in the 2025 CFL draft. Alphord was very impressive against riders, beating them for a big game and winning some 50/50 balls. The root tree of Alford is still remembering some branches, but he has clearly earned a trust of VA and adds an interesting dynamic to the already talented receiving room.
Stampeders are also doing it on the ground as Deedric Mills are second in the league in the rushing yard. He took advantage of his aggressive line dominating the riders last week and a week ago, participating on all blue bombers for 93 yards and a score.
On the Vennipag side, the team did not look great against Calgary going to his goodbye. Zach Collaros faced pressure for most of the game and Vinypeg Brady could not go to Olivera. In addition, defending waste division champs are a separate animal at home.
Since the CFL Covid-19 returned to action after the epidemic, the blue bombers are 31-5 in the princess auto stadium. I had to examine the triple and I still don’t fully believe it completely. It is a crazy statue that is very difficult to ignore.
Despite the loped scores in their Week 5 meeting, both these defense have been very strong this year as they both sit in the top-three in marks allowing per game. Therefore, when the rematch ended at 53 points, I believe this game will be on a low scoring side which should actually be a competitive game.
I suspect this stampders team. I don’t know if they win it outright, but they have certainly proved that they can do enough to keep the game closed.
Pick: Under Calgary +3.5, 53
Hamilton Tiger-Cat-Sunday at Ottawa Redblack (+1.5), EDT at 7:00 pm on July 20
This is a matchup. We get it twice because Redblack hosts Tiger-Cat in a rematch from last week’s game.
For these two teams, he started searching for his drain after 7-4 scores through 30 minutes till the second half. Hamilton was able to escape with a win after the fourth quarter of 10 points. Now, this scene turns into Ottawa where the Redblack has surprisingly struggled. The team is 0–2 at home this year after leaving 7-1-1 1-1-1, which helped them to eliminate four-season playoff drought.
The injuries have disturbed Redblack so far this season, but it seems that Drew Brown and Eugene Lewis have established a chemistry. The veteran receiver had a distance of 128 yards against Hamilton last week and is at a distance of over 200 combined yards in two matches since Brown returned. Both are clearly creating that dangerous combination when they brought experienced receivers from Edmonton.
From Hamilton, Tiger-CAT still has the highest scoring team based on per-game, even with 23-point output last week. Bo Levi Michelle and the rest of the crimes look as they have resumed from a slow start this year as the experienced QB leads the league in the passing yard. Ottawa was capable of keeping Mitchell at a distance of 266 yards last week, but I do not believe that they will be able to do so again this week.
The topic of the week is “Believe what this team is telling you,” and when I am clinging to it for most parts, I am going against this week.
Secondary of Ottawa has not allowed a 300-yard passer by the week 2 against Davis Alexander and Aloats. They are third in the league in the yards allowing per game and yet I still do not believe that it is a top-three passing defense.
I hope that Mitchell and the rest of this passing attack we inspire Hamilton to take advantage of them this week, for a sweep of this all-Atario series.
Pick: Hamilton -1.5
