It’s hard to avoid if, like us, you read movies the way a priest reads his Bible verses: 2024 is not supposed to be a ‘great’ movie year. The obvious reason is that international blockbusters are failing rapidly. With a few exceptions, films barely make money most of the time deadpool and wolverine And Wicked Who were able to revive our hopes. Additionally, studios are quick to push half-baked stories and sequels, resulting in a lack of originality. That being said, it is easier for us to find good content because we remain curious. We all surf streaming platforms, we go to theaters, we rent and we buy movies every year. So yes, even though 2024 wasn’t the greatest cinematic year in recent memory, there are diamonds in the rough… you just need to look for more. My personal favorite is actually a French film (available with subtitles) that is a reimagining of a literary classic: vengeance This is a ‘must have’ for all you great romantics with a thirst for an epic period piece.
