Over the years I have been paid to do a variety of photography including weddings. I had always avoided weddings, but finally, a family friend had a situation that forced me to and I did. Then, from the results of that, I was offered more, and you know how the story goes.
There were a lot of lessons learned from my first marriage to my last – some big, some small. There are definitely borderline objectives necessary for wedding photography, but for me, there’s something – or rather a group of things – that were essential to me: Extras… well, everything.
Of course, you can’t have extra EverythingBut when it came to batteries, cables, SD cards, etc., I was always fully stacked and they were all charged, formatted, and ready to go their individual ways. This is essential for me in many ways. First of all, sooner or later, something will wear out, fail, or otherwise deteriorate and if you don’t have a replacement, you’re in a bit of a pickle. Secondly, even though I’ve only had to suffer a real gear disaster once (a card was damaged and then unreadable!), it gives me the peace of mind that comes with knowing I have a wedding shoot. But the answers to the most difficult questions are priceless to me.
